The first installment of the series I'm doing; Meg: Monsters of the Deep. And for our first creature, we have Angel's mother, the megalodon of the first novel.

First sighted by Jonas Taylor as a young adult after being lured into the open by Paul Agricola, Angel's mother was inadvertently responsible for killing Jonas' crewmates when she caused him to panic and surface too quickly out of the Marianna Trench in a submarine. Afterwords, Taylor's commander, Richard Danielson, covered up the event, going so far as to throw the evidence (her tooth) back into the sea. Jonas would spend nearly a decade afterwards trying to prove the continued existence of megalodon, eventually coming face-to-face with her as a grown, pregnant adult during an attempt to salvage UNIS probes from the trench with DJ Tanaka after being hired to retrieve them by DJ's father, Masao Tanaka. DJ Tanaka was killed during the event by the female's mate. This male was immediately eaten afterwards by the female after it became tangled in the cable attached to DJ's abyss glider submersible. By remaining in his bloodstream as she was feeding, the shark was able to escape the cold-water thermocline that kept her kind trapped for eons in the deep, eventually resulting in her causing a reign of terror through the Pacific as she homed in on the ancestral breeding grounds of California of her species to give birth. She caused multiple whale and shark strandings across the pacific, and killed multiple people, including Commander Danielson, Jonas' ex-wife Maggie Taylor, and others. Though she was eventually captured, an attempt by Danielson to kill her resulted in both his death and the deaths of dozens more, forcing Jonas to kill the shark by using the hydrogen fuel in his abyss glider to ignite the whale oil in her stomach, causing the shark to burn to death from the inside out. However, the female megalodon was survived by her only surviving pup out of a litter of three, Angel, who was captured immediately after. As a result, megalodon would rise to fame around the world, courtesy of Taylor and the Tanaka Institute.
