Description
"Hear me, you fleshy insects! I choose this day to grant you mercy! Flee or fight and you forfeit that mercy both for you and your children! Today, your monuments shall fall, your city's history erased... for today a new age is upon you: the rule of the Dark Corps!" -Sauros before destroying the Palace of the City-State of Turintha with a fire blast so powerful it was mistaken for a plasma beam. The most vile dragon to walk Kairegorn, Sauros is considered evil incarnate by many. There is much throughout Kairegorn's history that has been written about him, and almost the entirety of it illustrates a dragon so hellish and evil he can be called an embodiment of darkness. A massive 200 feet long, he is larger than average for a dragon, and possesses a unique set of inner jaws filled with crooked teeth not unlike those of a goblin shark or moray eel. His scales are a shade of silver that look as though pitted, rusting, and chipping, a result to his immersion into the darkest types of magic. His claws are also serrated and razor-sharp, and he possesses a tail with six massive thagomizer spikes. His voice is as terrifying as his appearance, and sounds like a constant growl mixed with grating steel.
Once a proud member of The Order of the Dragon Riders, Sauros is the younger brother of Nadira, the first dragon partner to Delthyon. He was the last egg laid by his and Nadira's parents before they died of old age. After their deaths, Nadira brought his egg back to Castle Draco, where she presented him to be bonded with a rider when a compatible partner arrived, as is custom with all dragon eggs presented to the Order. During interims between missions, Nadira would use her mind to commune with Sauros once he reached full development inside the egg, ensuring he would always know his sister.
When Nadira died in battle with orc raiders at Kairodion, Sauros could sense it from inside his egg, so strong was their bond. As Delthyon grieved the lost of his dragon partner, the heads of the order, Thurian and Luminos, decided it might be best if he tried to bond with another dragon as a means of healing. And who should bond with Delthyon? Sauros, who chose his sister's rider. Little did the baby silver dragon know that to bond with Delthyon would mean the loss of his soul and sanity. Delthyon trained Sauros himself, which caused the young silver dragon to mature quickly, and Sauros learned much regarding magic and knowledge, serving with distinction for a full century with Delthyon from the years 901-910 ADH, helping to lead their squadron along side fellow dragon rider Galadren and his dragon, Shrike and protect Kairegorn.
However, behind closed doors, Delthyon and Sauros continued to grieve Nadira's death, delving into dark magics that should remain forgotten as a means of preventing what happened to Nadira from ever happening again. Eventually, as time went on, Delthyon's lust for power, his negative emotions and their secret experiments with dark magic poisoned Sauros' hearts. Eventually, disillusioned and blaming the order for the death of Nadira, they left, claiming they wished to explore the mysteries of magic. twenty others, Galadren and Shrike included, followed them. Eventually, during their journey, Delthyon and Sauros ventured into some of the darkest places in Kairegorn, eventually becoming seduced to full by an unspeakable entity that only Galadren and Shrike learned the true nature of.
It was also during this time that they conquered the orcs and Orku-ta, turning them into their loyal army. Delthyon and Sauros then set to secretly breeding an army of dragons to bond with orphans taken in the night, the most evil people they could find, children born to his followers, and and eggs laid en masse by their dragons. As this went on, their ranks swelled and grew, becoming the Dark Corps, which Delthyon and Sauros commanded as its de facto leaders. When their numbers were great enough, Delthyon and Sauros led an armada of Dark Corps dragons to attack Castle Draco. In what became one of the most tragic days for Kairegorn, Delthyon took 70,000 Dark Corps dragon riders under his command and assaulted Castle Draco and The Order of the Dragon Riders. Thousands of defenders were cut down in the surprise assault, waged in a storm. Delthyon and Sauros also personally faced off against Thurian and Luminos in combat, and after a long and exhausting battle in which Thurian gained the upper hand, Delthyon killed Thurian, the very founder of the order, when the latter offered to help him recover from his madness. The death of her rider sent Luminos into rage, and she defeated both Sauros and Delthyon in combat alone, forcing them to retreat. Delthyon and Sauros' forces inflicted heavy losses, but the Dark Corps eventually lost more than 50,000 of their warriors to the defending dragons and riders under Luminos' successful countermeasures. Only about 40,000 dragon-rider pairs from the order assault survived the battle out of nearly 80,000 present at Castle Draco during the assault. After Thurian was given a hero's funeral, Luminos immediately declared war against Delthyon, Sauros, and their underlings, beginning the great conflict that is the Millennium War.
For another 1,000 years, Delthyon and Sauros waged war against Kairegorn, intent on ruling it as their own twisted empire. Sauros grew more twisted and evil during this time, his once-beautiful scales now starting to pit and look as though they were rusting. His left upper horn became twisted from the corruption of of his use of the most evil types of dark magic, and his eyes' irises turning blood red with black sclera. His and Delthyon's power grew rapidly and unnaturally. He became cannibalistic, and cruel; an utter psychopath, as willing to kill his own allies if they failed him as he would do to his enemies. However, late into the war, the rise of one dragon-rider pairing set to waylay their plans. That pair was comprised of Kaine Dragonheart, a young human-elf hybrid, and Thorinen Cloud-Dancer, a prince of the dragons' ruling monarchy. Intrigued, angered, and fascinated at how anyone but Luminos could challenge them, Sauros and Delthyon have since clashed with these new archenemies many times, even as they seek to begin their endgame. When Galadren and Shrike were eventually killed by Kaine and Thorinen's own students, a great stalemate lasting three years began, and now, Sauros and Delthyon seek to tip the scales back in their favor, so that none can stand in their way.
Sauros, revised. Little had to be done here with the most evil dragon in Kairegorn, but scales were added to his face to give him a better look and his where his horns and frills begin and his skull ends. I also made his chin covered in a beard of scales. If you were to ever meet him, your best chance would be to hide and pray he does not find you, because he's all too happy to eat humans, elves, dwarves, and other dragons.
