Description
"The day you miss your kill, the man-cub's blood, will run down my chin!"ΒFor my first drawing of 2019, I thought I'd post my rendition of Shere Khan, an amalgam of his 2016 Jungle Book incarnation and his 2018 Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle incarnation. Like the latter, he has his lame leg, and the facial scars of the former. Β This Shere Khan is a terrifying, scarred and damaged individual full of anger and hate, broken by his experiences and remolded into a murderous creature who will do anything to reap death on his enemies.

Tigers are such beautiful animals. I could be wrong (and I truly hope I am), but sadly I fear that these poor animals are doomed to extinction. Based on what I've read and heard, there are more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild, and most of the captives ones are in the hands of private owners. Private owners who collect these animals often claim that they do it for conservation purposes, but in reality these tigers are never released into the wild, nor can they be because of unknown genetics, so inbreeding may have occurred. The future looks bleak for tigers.

It may surprise you, but tiger numbers have risen for the first time in a century in the wild, going from 3,500 to almost 4,000. While the future remains bleak, there is still hope, especially since it has been proven rewinding tigers does work, as has been tried with Siberian tigers and South China tigers.

really? Wow! I didn't know that. That is very good news! I felt so sure these poor animals were doomed. I'm glad to hear there might still be hope!

If that isn't enough, Nepal's tiger population has nearly doubled. Siberian tiger numbers too have risen to around 562 individuals.

Akela: You have no right to be here, Shere Khan!
Shere Khan: Well, I think you'll find I stay where I please.
Akela: You kill man's cattle, you poison the jungle. Β You're the reason man is here!
Shere Khan: But YOU permitted man to live among you. Β You pretend he is a wolf, when we both know that is the one thing he will never be. Β He will always be a man. Β YOU poisoned the jungle.

Since when is Shere Khan a hero?

He's protecting the jungle from the hunters that stalk and kill other animals.

Shere Khan kills for pleasure and for food, not to protect the jungle. Read the original Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and its sequel, The Second Jungle Book.Β

Iβm guessing this version of Khan is accompanied by Tabaqui, who is either a golden jackal or a striped hyena.
