At 30 tons and standing 26 feet tall, Tetraloxodon regalis, sometimes referred to as the "Four-tusked elephant" is Kairegorn's largest proboscidean. A gentle giant, herds of these animals regularly migrate across the grasslands of Kairegorn, feeding on grass, trees and shrubs. Though gentle and amiable towards humanoids, this species is untamable, unlike some smaller elephant species. It has very few predators save for dragons and large dinosaurs, but it is capable of repelling assaults from both due to its thick, osteoderm-filled, fire-resistant hide.
Bulls are generally solitary, while females and their calves live in herds. Unlike many elephants, herds may merge after a battle between matriarchs, leading to the formation of "superherds" that can number as many as fifty to a hundred animals. Males on the other hand, will fight vigorously with rivals, especially during the breeding season
Tetraloxodon are often friendly enough that they commingle peacefully with humanoids around water. Though they may steal crops on occasion, the elephants can be driven away from fields and orchards by way of foul-smelling fruits and tubers such as the dung-gourd. Hunting for this species is almost nonexistent, as they are too big to take down with guns and are so friendly that most people can be swayed to befriend these animals rather than hurting them. As a result, the elephants are hardly ever seen in conflict with people.
