A dinosaur at the New York Aquarium? Why yes, it is, but a rare kind of dino you don't see or hear about too often everyday. It's non other than Irritator! I suppose you guys are aware of this attraction, Dinosaur Safari, at the Bronx Zoo, right? Well, the surprise is that the Bronx Zoo is still not the only zoo in New York City to have dinosaurs this time. Here in the New York Aquarium, there used to be a Spinosaurus, but now replacing it is Irritator greeting the guests as they enter the aquarium. Not only that, it can also move and roar (though it almost sounds like a leopard). This was quite an exciting surprise when me and my friend entered the aquarium and we were not only excited, but also glad to have seen it.
Now about this dino, Irritator lived in Brazil, during the Early Cretaceous. This spinosaurid might have been semiaquatic, spending time on both land and water as it hunted down fish, pterosaurs, and other small animals it can catch. It's funny how its name means 'irritating.' I wonder how that came to be... XD
Plus, the other WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) zoos still have dinosaurs of their own too. The Central Park Zoo still has its Anlylosaurus, the Prospect Park Zoo still has its Cryolophosaurus, and the Queens Zoo still has its Carnotaurus. It seems to me that all of the WCS zoological parks are kicking off a celebration of Dinosaur Safari's return (and dinosaurs for that matter).
