Commenting on behalf of ProjectComment

This is an astonishing piece. The level of detail, expression and mood play very well together. I only wonder for what reason you limited yourself to a grayscale palette? Did you have a specific reason, or 'just' "It seemed right to me" (a completely valid reason in art in my opinion).
I noticed his eyes are not on the same level - some may consider it a fault, but in my eyes it makes him more human. No human is 'perfect'. You might have intensified the light-shadow-play here, but it's far from necessary. In this way, his eyes stand more out, because they are (apart from the nostrils) the only things in his face surrounded by some darkness. I just mention it because the turban seems to cast no shadow on his skull, noticable especially in the upper left of his face, where it has depth in itself, but not on his face. I don't know if I can say what I mean, I hope you understand it.

Thanks you for the in depth analysis of my artwork. I kept it gray scale because the reference picture was also in grayscale. Apart from
this I love to see or enjoy grayscale pictures more than colored as it looks more intense to me.
You perfectly noticed the level difference of eyes in the picture, which is true, it could have been level or balanced to make it more perfect but I kept
it same as in reference picture. It could be the defect to many because they assume that its a artistic imperfection. But atleast you took it positively.
Yes, Light and shadow can be intensified asI was not sure earlier whether it would enhance the look or ruin it completely. So I decided to remain close to original picture. But now I will sure consider to rework if it could enhance the attraction of eyes.
Regarding turban, what I understood from your remarks is that I should add darkness near the line where turban touches the forehead, and yes it will
look better.
All your suggestions are taken into account, and will surely apply them on this painting and remember for future work.
Will show you updated picture once I fix it.

Thanks a tonn for your time and efforts for providing me valuable suggestion and appreciating my artwork. I am feeling honored.
I request you to review my other portraits as well as if any one could be close to your expectation:

I look forward to your art!

I will gladly take a look at your other pictures, but I must warn you - I am a complete stranger to oil painting; I already suck at watercolors or acrylic colors, leave alone oil. I am more of the drawing or 3D art type with images, mostly I'm an author. So I might hint out more general things, but I will not be able to take a look at your oil technique.

I love the way you drew the beard, so beautiful.
The wrinkles and the eyes also capture the idea of wisdom.

Very nice detail.
You excellently captured the emotion of "hope" in his eyes.
The beard too was obviously given a lot of attention and effort.
Perhaps a little work on shading? Hard to say, this is a great drawing.
One thing that might even be definite is the background,
not that there isn't enough detail, but it simply is too much like theΒ
rest of the man. Like the shade, maybe making it more darker (or lighter)
would help the man stand out more. But then again, if made too dark then the
dark border wouldn't have as much of an effect. keep in mind.
I guess one more good thing is (i don't know if you wanted this or not)
but the man looks like he is a little hunched over, making him more sadΒ
but also more hopeful. his right should is higher than his left which fits your
description "and thoughtful eyes". not only is he hopeful but his posture is
making him look like he is also wondering about something, or gazing at
something beautiful.
Anyway, i hope you enjoyed drawing this. and i hope my comment
helps even a small amount. Have a nice day!

Thank you for the wonderful indepth comment and noticing every bit of detail.
Yes, I put in great efforts on his mustache & beard of the character just to emphasize
pride it brings to the man ofΒ  his community (Indian - Rajasthani Man)
Backgroud, I tried dark earlier but it bring too much focus on character and was not looking natural.
I also tried lighter background but it suppress the overall look of the foreground, so then i decided to stay near to mid tone.

Rightly said, the man is sad, might have many depression within, who can not cry but to stand stiff with the feeling of hope as
time will never be same imparting a message to never despair in life, one should always move forward.

Your comments was really helpful, heartiest thanks for your time and efforts. Feeling honoured.

No problem, i'm happy i could help!
But yes, he may be a leader who's followers
cannot see him cry about whatever may be
burdening his heart . .
