Description Lame title, I know!

Anyways, I always loved 's Star Trek OC, Captain Ian Fletcher and always wanted to do fanart of him with my Star Trek OC, Calius Kirk (daughter of James T. Kirk)

Im very happy that when Calius is 12, Fletcher would only be 43 years old so they can fit in the same era together. Of course in this picture, Cali has gone back in time in hoping to find answers to her past (finding her family) and encounters Captain Fletcher whom knows shes the Daughter of James T. Kirk but of course because of Time Traveling rules, cannot tell her this information. Here the same race who kidnapped Calius to begin with has boarded the USS Defiant (a team from the present sent to the past to find Cali after the crew of the USS Talon took her in) and Captain Fletcher is protecting her from them and taking her to the Time Paradox to return to her own time where she will be safe back in the hands of his fellow Captain, Aver and the crew of the Talon.

Oh and yes thats a Tribble on Fletch's shoulder, it actually belongs to Calius ^^ Also Calius is suppose to be getting a "piggy back" Ride here..but I fail at making it look like that...thats why she seems so abnormally tall ;

I dont thing I did this awesome Character justice..I will have to draw him again in the near future.

Sounds great, I'm guessing that if NCC-1764 was the first Defiant, then your friend's ship would be the second and NX-74205 the third? ^_^

I had to think about that for a second but yes, that would be correct :3 By the way I love you Starfleet uniform! Its so unique!!! I might have to draw it sometime. What year does the uniform fall under?

I would love to see art of the ship sometime or just know more about it, especially since it seems like you two are working with the Prime continuity instead of creating a new one like I did. ^_^ Most of your ideas seem to be around the TWOK era or the Lost Years, so I'm guessing this would be a Movie Era ship? Or maybe something closer to the Excelsior or Enterprise-C in design?

To answer your question, I ended up being a little creative with my ideas. It is actually used by the Starfleet of an alternate reality - what I did was create an alternative version of the J.J. Abrams universe, so that I could have more room to be creative without having too many rules to follow and too much established chronology to shoehorn my ideas into. I really don't like contradicting existing canon because it makes me feel like I'm destroying things I shouldn't be touching.

So, you could say that my uniform comes from the "Wrath of Khan" era of the J.J. Abrams universe. It's supposed to be introduced maybe around 2278 or so and used until the 2350s. But it has a specific purpose. It is a semi-ceremonial "battle dress" uniform. In the Starfleet regulation codes it's called a Class-C, but officers nicknamed it the "Raven" because of its raven-black color and because early versions of it had a pointy "tail" - a raven's tail.

Originally, during the ENT era of this A/U, officers actually donned combat suits with armor during wartime. But as the years went by, these armored suits were replaced by ceremonial uniforms that were still somewhat practical for fighting instead. You can't see it in my drawings, and no real outfit can do this, but that black uniform is actually covered in small hardpoints for what I describe as "self-replicating armor."

Each hardpoint is covered in small tiles made with nanite technology that incorporate micro-replicators. The tiles are controlled by a central microprocessor hidden in the chest hardpoint, and powered by miniature power cells. They also feature heavily miniaturized sensors that link to the chest microprocessor. So whenever the sensors detect an incoming blow, the tiles immediately begin to replicate, forming larger shapes to block the blow. They usually take the form of flat sheets and plates or rounded "bucklers."

In other words, an officer wearing this could block a Klingon Mek'leth strike by creating a shield with his/her forearm hardpoint(s). When the armor is no longer needed, the plates will just convert back into energy (except for the ones on the original hardpoint itself), since replicators can transform matter into energy as well as energy into matter, and use the energy to keep the batteries charged.

The system isn't perfect because the officer can't completely control the shapes that the hardpoints will form, but they're good enough to protect officers on the field from melee weapons and glancing shots with a Phaser. I wish I could get my real outfit to do that or at least make "armor" pieces that could fit over the costume to make it look like it's created plates, but I doubt that'll be happening. ^_^;

Actually, there was a very real reason I designed the outfit. Most of my story ideas revolve around a devastating war between the Federation and an alternative version of the Terran Empire that was so powerful that it could invade other universes without hesitation.

The final confrontation had my O/C fighting the main villain: his own Mirror Universe duplicate. I already decided that the Mirror character was going to be wearing a black uniform. So I figured I'd get my hero out of his Monster Maroon and stick him in a black outfit too, so that it would drive home the fact that no matter how different they might seem, these two characters are nothing but two slightly different versions of the same man.

In other words: this is the classical literary concept of the "Doppelganger" or "Mad Double" captured in a pair of costumes that were deliberately meant to be a sick, twisted "mirror" of each other.

And I would be very honored if you drew it! I'm no good at drawing anything organic or in three dimensions, but I've often wondered how this thing would look on other characters, so if you were to draw it, I'd love that.

Take a look through my DA gallery. You'll see plenty of pictures of the real life outfit, as well as every draft I ever went through when designing it. I left notes in all my submissions that describe the details, how I came up with things, why I changed things here and there, etc. And the details I show in my drawings will tell you almost exactly how to draw the outfit - what pins go where, for example.

Thats so awesome!! So I think...If I read that correctly, My OC's could/or have possibly worn the uniform itself :3 Which is AWESOME cause Id love to draw my OC Calius Kirk in it and possibly my A/U Q as well. Ill have to invade your gallery some more after dinner and here and see what I can come up with! Thats so awesome that you put some much detail and background into your character and the uniform! I just simply made a uniform and didn't really put into mind why I made it as such, although its basically TNG uniform with the TOS crew colors (yellow is command, etc).

Well, my story ideas ultimately involve a cataclysmic multiverse war involving 4 different alternate realities, two of them based on the Prime Timeline, two of them (one of them being my particular Mirror Universe) based on the Abrams Universe. The consequence here is that it's been made clear now that the Abrams Universe has been kick-started in terms of technology. Its technology is going to be more powerful, its ships larger. So this was part of the excuse I made to have a stable Terran Empire with a giant Navy, augmented soldiers and so much military might that it can invade multiple universes at once.

And once it pushes into the universe where most of my story ideas take place in, the only way the Federation could even fend it off was because it was forewarned many years ago when survivors of another Federation that got attacked were dumped into that particular universe. The Federation then secretly formed an alliance with the other major powers of the Alpha Quadrant - the Confederacy of Allied Powers, simply known as the Allies for short - and waited for the Terrans to arrive. The Terrans still managed to take a huge chunk of everybody's territory and hold off the entire Allied forces for quite a while. I wasn't kidding when I said this Mirror Universe is extremely powerful!

As for the uniform, I think it's perfectly possible that your original characters could have worn it. To be honest, I actually created an entire system of black uniforms. The version you see here, with twin epaulettes on the shoulders (those shoulder tabs), and two golden lines going down the front, was only used by Captains. The system works like this. All uniforms are based on the Monster Maroon, only raven black in color.

Ensign, Lieutenant J.G., Lieutenant: black Monster Maroon w/ gold lining and TOS style stripes (none for Ensign, 1 broken for LTJG, 1 solid for LT) on the cuffs along with the normal Monster Maroon insignia.
Lieutenant Commander: same as above, but w/ one division color epaulette on the right shoulder under the shoulder strap and Lieutenant Commander sleeve stripes on the cuffs (1 broken over 1 solid).
Commander: same as Lt. Commander, but the single epaulette is now on the left shoulder (the one w/ no shoulder strap) and features Commander sleeve stripes on the cuffs (2 solid).
Captain: what you saw in my drawings: 2 epaulettes, 2 golden lines down the front of the uniform, Captain sleeve stripes on the cuffs.
Veteran Captain: Add two "seniority bars" (really USAF/Army/USMC Captain bars, they look like golden or silver letter H's) to the epaulette tabs.
Admiral: completely different uniform design.

I'm sure we could easily find a way to allow Calius and your A/U Q to wear the version of the black uniform that you saw, as long as she's a Captain, which I think she is. And Q's fine too... in fact, the way I had the war start, was that the Q Continuum had decided to test humanity again - but on a more epic scale. The Continuum elders decided to allow certain regions of space to become "dimensionally unstable" and prone to forming interphasic rifts. Then, in the Beta Universe (the one with the super powerful Terran Empire), the Terrans found the rifts - then began to develop technology to exploit them after realizing that they could launch attacks against their counterparts.

To most of the Q, this was all just a test, or a game. But there were some Q who disagreed and didn't like this at all, believing it to be at the very least unfair, at most blatant tampering with the structure of the universe and abuse of power. These Q were barred by the elders and their own law from directly intervening on the mortals' behalf. But they swore to find other ways.

So, there is at least one Q involved trying to subtly help the three different Federations in the 3 "good" universes the Terrans attack. This particular Q is a young female Q - she'd be a teenager or young adult in Q terms. But who knows? She might not be the only Q who's trying to help. Now, I don't know how you've got your story ideas set up, but I seem to remember your Q being depowered at one point? (I confess I actually had found your submissions and read up on some of your work a while ago, but it was a long time ago and a lot of it's slipped my mind.)

And also, I was very careful not to mention Kirk and his crew (except maybe having Sulu be Captain of the Excelsior already) in my story ideas because I have no idea where J.J. Abrams is taking this or how far he's planning to go with the reboot, since it's now clear that the history of these characters will be very different in the Alternate Reality. I seem to remember seeing that you've already set up a J.J. Abrams version of Calius. So if you want to draw Calius in my black uniform, you could either have it be the J.J. Abrams Calius or maybe have some version of your Prime Calius get dumped into my A/U and end up wearing the uniform. Or you could even just say that your Starfleet also has the tradition of "uniform swapping" during wartime. It's up to you. ^_^

Well, I've had these ideas going since 2002 so they're 12 years old. I first came up with it because I had to put together a portfolio assignment for my English Honors class and I wanted to make mine a little more "creative." At the time, a model builder named April Welles had created an Excelsior kitbash that she called the USS Farrington (NX-2010), supposedly a modified Excelsior with a wormhole generator installed that was lost in the Andromeda galaxy during a test of the device.

Furthermore, I was also playing "Starfleet Command 1" like a deranged freak, and the Federation campaign of the game ultimately involves a war between the Federation and the Terran Empire. I put all of it together with a few anime crossovers and some influences from "Revolutionary Girl Utena" and "Saber Marionette J" and a few other tidbits here and there, and the basic idea of my story line was born. I've been tinkering with it ever since, although when I was an undergrad in college, my then-roommate helped me completely revamp it and make it stronger and more internally consistent.

Among other things, we expanded the # of universe involved from two to four. And to make sure we could tell all these universes apart, I began to design completely different sets of uniforms for each universe that was involved. The Terran Starfleet was the most dramatic difference, since my Terran Empire was deliberately connected to Nazi Germany and therefore, their uniforms are this over-militarized twisted mockery of the classic "Monster Maroon" with a very heavy German motif in their design. The "Raven" uniform we're talking about, however, is unique to the Delta Universe (the one my main character, Captain M. Tobias Sun, comes from), because I intended it as a way to tell him apart from every other version of him (including the main villain, his psychopathic Mirror Universe duplicate).

As for the Self-Replicating Armor, part of the reason we designed it was so that an officer could use the armor hardpoints to engage in close-quarters hand-to-hand combat. My roommate and I were both Batman fans and I really like the fighting style Batman uses in the Christopher Nolan films, the Keysi Fighting Method. So with armor hardpoints that can generate plates on your forearms and elbows, if Calius were wearing the uniform she should be able to do stuff like this with it:

[link]

[link]

But yeah, I'd love to see your O/C wearing my uniform. It implies that at some point, our two characters might fight side-by-side against the Mirror Universe invasion forces, doesn't it? ^_^

You have me all giddy now...I love ready everything Trek!

Okay so to answer some of your questions here!

So I think the first one you brought up was Q being de-powered. This is true. This happens in Continuum, when he gives up his immortality to save Calius' life. This happens because in Continuum, Trelane returns to try and kill Calius and Q (Calius more so because in TOS, Trelane lost to her father, and he's still being a really bad sport about it, and wants Calius' life in exchange for her fathers, and because Q happened to join a pact with her, which in a sense, de-powered him back when she was still trying to gain back her memory about her past, he thought he'd kill two birds with one stone, since we know in the books, Trelane and Q are not too found of each other. Now whether you wish to believe Trelane is Q's "son" thats up to you, I personally never saw it that way, but I do believe Q mentor Trelane at one point.) and Calius being half Q (in a sense since her mother gave up her immortality to be with one James T Kirk and to shield Calius from Continuum elders since at the time of Calius' birth, it would of been very controversial)suffers a relapse when she is able to see Trelanes "weak spots" to kill him in the end. In short, her Q genes over power her mortal ones and kill her for a brief time and Q sacrifices his immortality to bring her back. It probably seems cliche and honestly that is the only part I keep questioning in our RP's is how Q saved her life....but other days it sounds logical, some day just silly, but considering Continuum is one of my favorite RPs that we did, I don't let it bother me too much. The only thing I can really own up to that theory is their pact had a big part in that. When Calius was 12 and Trelane came to torment them the first time, In able to save both their lives (because Trelane wanted to Test Q's loyalty to Calius and made him save her from every possible life threatening situation you could think of and more), Q had to perform a pact with Calius, in which she dripped 2 drops of blood into his left eye (I never really expanded on why it goes like that, but I made it an old Continuum ritual that had been banned for centuries since)which in turn freaked Trelane out since the act was forbidden and the last Q who did it, killed the mortal who he pacted with so he could die too. He basically went insane. (rules of the pact are simple, Q's powers are decreased, he has to eat and sleep in able to use his powers to the fullest, he can feel Calius' emotions, pain, etc and if Calius is murdered or dies naturally, he dies as well. If Calius dies by accident or commits suicide, Q will live and he will become fully immortal again)

Pairing Calius, whom Q had known since the age of 12, and making them get married to begin with, was opening a door for drama and people claiming Q to be a pedophile, which I fight with "The man is ageless....and he didn't have feelings like that until Calius was 19" I really thought pairing her with the son of Spock, which was the original plan, was over done and too cliche (Daughter/son of kirk marries/loves Daughter/son of Spock...overly cliche and too predictable. I don't think ANYONE saw Calius and Q getting together in the end.) Honestly Q and Calius had better chemistry to begin with and thats where I get into explaining the Time line they are in.

Believe it or not, its actually NOT JJ, nor TOS, TNG Etc, its a whole other new timeline created by Q. I guess you can say its post TNG/TOS. Because the moment Q changes the timeline, is when he saves the SS Lukal and The Enterprise-B from falling into the Nexus. In a A/U verison of Generations, Calius would of been born, but raised by her uncle Darrin (who is a Q) but would of been ultimately an orphan and later die at the age of 16 due to depression, But because Q saved James T Kirk from dying, he changed the timeline so Calius would live to see her dad, but Also, Kash (The son of Khan) had reason to seek revenge and kidnap Calius from Kirk and thus begins Defiance|Alliance. So going back to why Calius and Q seemed to be a better pair than Calius and Buea (Spocks Son in our universe) is because without Q, Calius would of never really existed. From the moment he saved the SS Lakul (now for his own selfish reasons, he had gotten in trouble with the Continuum again and was trying to make up for it by apologizing to Guinan ( I dont think I spelled that right) but of course arrived just in time while she was being sucked into the Nexus ribbon)Q had created a whole new timeline, which the Continuum made him responsible for until his trail. In that time, Q could not move through time as he please, but with it in mortal fashion. It's funny Cause Q actually hated Calius for ruining his life until he saw her on Seta XII (the planet Kash took her too when he kidnapped her. Completely made up)and she reminded him a lot of him when he was her "age". Ack Im rambling....In short, Calius wouldn't of been possible without Q, and Q would of never gained a new perspective without her. Its one of those destined to be things.

Even though the Q in our RPs is based on John De Lancie's character, he is pretty much a A/U version of that Q.

Calius' design is based on a mix of TOS and JJ's Kirk. She has Chris Pines looks, but has William Shatner's personality to almost a T, which a small bit of Jean Luc Picard in there. Calius is naive like James T. Kirk, but has her Picard Moments. So this is why I say she falls under a completely new timeline thats either really consistent will the JJ verse nor the TOS/TNG verse. Its a fun little party box of all good things trek ^w^ Heck she even talks like the Shatman sometimes. I think the only thing she carries from Chris Pines Character is: The love of apples and the saying that: "There is no such thing as a no-win scenario"

Calius is a Captain So that works perfectly! A lot of people hate me for making her a Captain at 20, but hey when you have great friends on your side, like two Captains that saved your life from The son of Khan and one wants you as his first officer after you just graduated, it comes pretty easy. It also helps when you save a cruise vessel from a Romulan attack when no one else, even the Captain who wanted you to be his first officer, doesn't listen to you. Of course Starfleet was not happy with rewarding their newest Flagship to Calius, so she was put on a year probation, but she ultimately passed. The funny thing is ( I forget his name but he's an admiral in our RPS) said if Calius made it one year, he'd personally put the USS Alliant in her name and put a bow on it and give it to her on her birthday. Happy Birthday Calius!

Anyways Ill stop talking your ear off...or...your eyes I guess in this case? XD I tend to ramble and get really excited when people are interested in our Trekverse!!

galaxy1701d In reply to SaddlePatch [2012-12-14 06:00:49 +0000 UTC]

Wow, thanks so much for all of the information. I really mean it, I don't consider you to be rambling or talking my ear off, and I needed to see that because it really helps me "get" where Calius is coming from and where you want your own head!canon to go. So instead, I'll just move our conversation forward by addressing a few things and maybe talking a little about my own O/C, Captain M. Tobias Sun, if I get the time (I have a cab picking me up in 4 hours to drop me off at the airport. I have to fly from Augusta, GA back to San Francisco, CA and I'm not looking forward to this!).

Well, making Calius a captain at 20 does sound like a very Mary-Sue thing to do... UNTIL you take a very close look at the fact that Calius' entire life has been abnormal. She didn't have a normal childhood, she's been forced into situations demanding leadership from her at an early age, and Starfleet does seem to be modeled more on the old fashioned Napoleonic Royal Navy where the force is not necessarily as hardcore about bureaucracy and stickling for the rules. I'm sure an exception could have been made for her given what her situation is.

Also, if you were using the old Royal Navy from the Age of Sail as your model like Gene did, then there were fewer ranks and promotions could and often did happen much faster depending on what you got the chance to do, and more importantly, who you know or were related to, so it was not entirely impossible to see people make captain at 20 or younger (Stephen Decatur - ironically in the U.S. Navy - was known for being a very young captain, getting promoted by 2 ranks from Lieutenant straight to Captain because of one daring incident!) as long as she can prove she's got the ability to lead well, understand life aboard a military starship, stay in control and handle situations without panicking. Practicality should rule in the military, especially when it comes to extraordinary people. ^_^

I like the way you've set up Calius' looks. She does seem pretty darn cute, especially with that short hairdo, and seeing her paired with Q, especially the way I remember a younger John de Lancie's portrayal back in early TOS, is really interesting especially if you are making this a version of Q from earlier in his own timeline. Besides, if people really want to pick bones with Q dating Calius, think about this, how many times in old mythology - Greek in particular (Zeus, I'm looking at you!) do we have very old, ageless gods getting into dalliances with teenage or barely twenty-something girls? It seems Zeus/Jupiter was doing it just about very other week, doesn't it?

Besides, I agree with you. I can see you built the two characters so that they interact well, have nice chemistry with one another, but more importantly, they lock well together in terms of where they come from, where they're going and what makes them tick. I've had a lot of experience with the history of my own head!canon over trying to force a romantic relationship or even deep friendship between characters and just realizing that it wasn't going to work, and having to restructure the relationships, or even ditch certain characters altogether.

(By the way, how did you come up with Calius' name? I've never seen that anywhere and it wouldn't strike me as a girl's name right off the bat. Roman names ending with "-ius" usually were used for men as Roman girls' names usually ended with "-ia," you see. Hence Julius/Julia.)

For example, it wasn't a given originally that my captain was going to have a love interest - the Madeline character hadn't been created yet. The android girl character was already there, and I thought he might make an interesting pairing with her. But the more I thought about it, the more it wouldn't work because their personalities were just too similar. But on the other hand, I really did want them to be in some kind of close, loving relationship because it did work somehow - so I took a cue from something else that had always been missing from my life, and made the android girl my captain's adopted sister. The two characters worked perfectly as a pair of siblings, and so my character became a doting "Onii-sama." ^_^

*** ***

Your solution to the timeline issue and where Calius fits in is really intriguing, and it's not unlike what I did. I quickly realized when I was trying to come up with the very first version of what became "Dark Reflection," way back in 2002 when I was a high schooler, that it was never going to fit into the Prime Timeline. So I declared an A/U right from the start, and also established that my version of the Mirror Universe was not going to be the canon one.

Then, when my college roommate and I were revamping "Dark Reflection" to really make it a serious story and not just some self-insertion fantasy, we realized that a lot of things would have to be changed and a number of plot arcs needed to be added to better explain things, solidify the background action and to provide a solid conclusion.

The "Gamma Universe Resistance Arc" went from being a very small prequel side-story to the cataclysmic final plot arcs of the Mirror War, focusing on Madeline's actions as the 2nd Captain of the Farrington in the Delta Universe and Tobias' actions as Leader of the Starfleet Resistance in the Gamma Universe before everything finally comes to a head in one giant final battle.

And then, J.J. Abrams' movie came along, giving us a bigger sandbox to play in and a legitimate excuse to have bigger ships and more advanced technology existing in the TOS era. So, "Dark Reflection" now involves FOUR different alternate universes interacting with each other. Two of them are based on the J.J. Abrams reality and feature bigger ships and higher tech. But the other two are based on the Prime reality and feature smaller ships and less-advanced tech more like what we saw in TWOK onward. Confused much? ^_^;

*** ***

Also, I do think it would be really neat if we could have Captain Sun somehow meet Calius someday, but I see that Calius isn't even born until 2294 even in your "rebooted" continuity.

I deliberately don't mention Kirk or his crew in my work, because I wanted to allow my 'verse to be flexible enough to still accommodate anything that might happen in future Abrams films, comics or video games, but that would still mean that if we decided to just merge our continuities, Captain Sun would start his career decades before Calius was even born and Calius would be born when the Mirror War was at its fiercest. (The buildup to the war starts in the 2270s, but the fighting lasts until almost 2300 and the fiercest part of the conflict happens in the 2290s when Captain Sun returns from the Andromeda galaxy and the Farrington finally joins her sisters on the front line.)

So, if we want Calius to be able to wear the black uniform legitimately - not just for the sake of putting her in it - then either Starfleet will have to engage in a declared armed conflict or crisis sometime during her captaincy and before or during 2350 (when Starfleet will change to the TNG style uniforms), or perhaps some "incident" would happen (remember, the Q *are* involved with the Mirror War - they started the whole "rift space" issue as the "ultimate" test for humanity, and I'm sure your version of Q would have a serious bone to pick with his people being so blase about threatening all life in FOUR universes just because they wanted to test human fortitude and morality!) that would involve a young Captain Calius and Q getting tossed back in time to the Mirror War.

Perhaps, having no immediate way back, she'll simply re-enlist in the Starfleet of the past, fighting the Terran Empire's invasion forces alongside her father and a much younger Captain Fletcher. ^_^ Who knows, it's a big universe. And with a clear bent toward multiverse theory in the way "Dark Reflection" is set up, there's a lot of room to play, especially since I deliberately don't mention a lot of things to leave that kind of room there. If we can't shoehorn her into the "main line" version of DR, which is the more "serious" plot that tries to stay consistent with military realism and "Star Trek's" canon rules, we can use the "crack fic" version where Captain Sun is MUCH younger and I chose to bend or break the rules to make crossovers work more easily.

*** ***

Of course, my character has his own issues to deal with. In some ways, his going into Starfleet as an Archaeology/Anthropology Officer (yes, he did Carolyn Palamas' job) was a sort of way for him to run away from his heritage and what he believed other people expected him to be.

Notice that Tobias' last name is Sun. He's a direct member of one of the most famous clans in all of China: the Sun family, descendants of the great Sun Tzu, the general who wrote "The Art of War." In the third century A.D., two entire generations of the Sun Clan ruled the Kingdom of Eastern Wu when the Han Dynasty collapsed and China split into three warring pieces and these people become immortalized in pop culture when a novel was written about the Three Kingdoms period: "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," best known today as the "Dynasty Warriors" series of video games and anime like "Koihime Musou" and "Ikki Tousen" and the most prominent of these was the official founder of Eastern Wu - Sun Quan/Zhoumou or Sonken Chuubou, one of ancient China's greatest kings and Tobias' direct ancestor.

(Well, in the "non-crack fic" version or "serious" version of the story, anyway. You see, the real Sonken was a man. But in the anime "Koihime Musou," Sonken got turned - like everybody else - into a cute girl. And since the "crack fic" version of my story ideas was designed for anime crossovers, the Captain Sun in that version is descended from the female Sonken of "Koihime Musou" instead of the real-life male "Sonken:" [link] )

And in the 20th century, a Sun, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, became the revolutionary that finally toppled the Chinese Empire when the ruling Qing Dynasty became too corrupt and complacent to continue. Suns fought with distinction in the Romulan War. Tobias' own father was a well-known captain in the Starfleet Department of Colonial Operations who was lost on a mission when the boy was 2, and his uncle is one of the bigwigs in Starfleet's computer engineering and research divisions. To put it simply, this guy's family has been producing kings, generals, revolutionaries and heroes for well over 2,000 years. Being a Sun is a privilege.

Unfortunately, the last few hundred years of conflict had also done a number on the Sun Clan. Many Sun descendants were killed in WW1, WW2, the Eugenics Wars, WW3 and the Romulan War. And after the mass carnage of WW3, much of China's historical records were destroyed and most of the survivors among the Chinese people didn't have the time or the means to try to find their own family histories.

Because of this, Tobias' family is the only one left that can directly trace its lineage back to Sonken Chuubou and from Sonken through to Sun Tzu. And unfortunately... Tobias' grandparents are old and feeble, his uncle was rendered infertile by a medical condition, his parents are dead and his only "sibling" isn't even human. Our hero is the final living descendant of Sonken Chuubou and Sun Tzu. He is the "Last of the Suns." And he isn't very happy about it.

As a child, Tobias was the last kind of person you'd EVER expect to become a military hero or even a starship captain or explorer. He was a timid, precocious, nerdy bookworm, shy and easily scared and such a favorite target of bullies that his childhood friend Madeline had to fight them off with a squirt-gun Phaser toy. It didn't help that he knew exactly who his ancestors were - the Sun Clan became so famous thanks to the legend of the Three Kingdoms that it was impossible NOT to know about them.

Even at that young age, Tobias was well aware that he was the last Sun descendant. And knowing the kind of person he was, he despaired. Although it really wasn't true, he grew up convinced that because of his blood line and family name, the world must be expecting great things from him - things that he really believed he couldn't accomplish. This sentiment fed a deep-seated insecurity, causing him to eventually decide to simply pursue a major in the social sciences and history and become a mere junior science officer in the hopes that he could go to space, have a decent career, and forget about his past. He would escape the "pressure" of his heritage - the sheer pressure of a foolhardy self-delusion that he was an incompetent heir and would never be worthy of his proud family name - by running away from it.

Of course, fate had other plans for him... but I think that's a story for another time... I just thought I'd give you a little background on my character in return for you giving me some background on yours.

Calius was born in 2294 Thats correct :3 She becomes Captain at 20...so..thats....2314....and with Q as her husband, time travel is possible however, in our head canon its forbidden to be achieved by Q himself, as he is forced to stay in the time line he had created as punishment (which doesn't really work to be punishment in the end there)but other Qs can take them wherever they need to go. Actually it's their daughter Quynn who ends up being the head of the Federation/Continuum Space Time Task Force, which is dedicated to preserving the head!canon time line since so much has been achived by humans and the Q a like. (its a cheesy name and still in the works XD)

Id would love it if Captain Sun and Captain Kirk somehow met (Calius not Jim XD) and with Qs anything is possible....hmm we might have to expand on that a bit! Dont worry I read everything just really tired to reply to it all XD Ill probably send ya a note or something :3
