Symbiolic came about as a result of my wanting to explore the space of Spell-Speed locking. Essentially, playing with when & how effects could be activated in the chain, though that boiled down to what we see with the actual archetype now, as just a lock on CL2. I tend to enjoy 'rotating' which summoning mechanics I use in my designs, and Fusions were something I'd not done a lot with at the time (Symbiolic actually came chronologically after Thalasoph, although they were in development hell for a LONG time), so that was the concept. The idea of War Rock-esque cavemen who actually leaned into the 'caveman yugioh' gimmick of locking ss2 interaction seemed neat, and after that it was just development of the Equip Token idea.
