Description
Even when young, Peli was a gracious keeper of the reduced. From day one as a bounty hunter, Peli pledged to be fair with all subjects, even going so far as to cut them all a special pactβ a sort of bargain with the red headed hunter. The Inchlings (official Light designation of the reduced prisoners) would be given immediate freedom and their past deeds forgiven if they can overcome their smallness and take on Peli.Welllll.... As it turns out for those Inchlings, Peli is a whopping six feet and six inches taller than they are and so she's got a mighty high horse to be on. Most of the time, those who take up the challenge give up embarrassingly the second the terms pass Peli's lips. Some try to run and hide...
...And eventually do get caught once more.
Inchling
noun | inchΒ·ling
plural -s
: A scale-reduced ward or prisoner of the Light authorities, normally one inch tall, and kept under careful and often-tedious supervision of a qualified keeper or guardian.

She thought so too, but Light superiority complex.

Such a complex only makes you weaker, Peli.

Not with her, others. She used to (sorta) be that way but she got that attitude kicked right out of her.
Does she remind you of any of your own characters, by any chance?

In what fashion? Falling in love with someone outside of her race or ethnic group?

It's a stretch, but there are two that have some similarities to her.
Neffy is a boy that once had a high position in a monarchy (In this case, the actual king) before learning about the corruption that plagued there as well as the error of his own ways. Hell, even though he was terrified, he didn't really oppose Thomas killing him out of spite and revenge. After being spared, he moves on and transitions from a wuss that was laughably weak compared to even the average person to a warrior that trains to surpass the strength of super soldiers and can keep up with the main cast in terms of power. He becomes a man that believes in protecting the weak and being merciful and understanding towards his enemies, vowing never to take a sentient life or torture anyone.
Another character is one that I have yet to introduce but will be an important character to the series. His name is Phobia, a Blesserin with the ability to manipulate and create the fears of his enemies. He once had a superiority complex that Blesserin were superior to non-Blesserin beings. He wasn't completely racist or anything, but he had a prejudice. After breaking free from the villain that imprisons him, he goes on trials. Nothing like Resurrecting. More like undergoing events that test his morality, allowing him to slowing become a hero instead of a neutral jerk.Β
Both are stretches.
Neffy and Pelican both rejected corruption and trained to push beyond fears
Phobia and Peli both become independent and look past their superiority complexes.

You've told me about Phobia before, and I can see the similarities.

I don't have a character that is a bounty hunter, captures criminals by shrinking them, and falls in love with a human all at once. Sorry!

Neffy is a coward that finally comes out of his shell.
And Phobia is a terrifying beast that enjoys seeing people in pain but establishes his limits and eventually becomes good, even though he hates the label of a hero.
Considering that those two are almost polar opposites to one another, I doubt Peli can relate to both of them.

As I said, she changed. Hell someday she'll become nearly anti-shrinking (but not totally), and she'll even adopt a Human name to fit in better with her new "family". Dynamism at work.

I know, but I'm saying that the two characters I mentioned before were very different from one another, let alone Peli.

It's a good thing to be dynamic, static characters are lousyβ they are. Comedic material and gags are the best application for them in the long run.

That's the thing with Waving Hello. I have characters that I plan on introducing that were formed to showcase stereotypes (Such as someone with aspergers or someone from China) while making them three dimensional in nature. It's challenging, but it's worth it.

Yeah because your story is set in a universe of your crafting. That's why characterization in SOS is easier for me. In Waving Hello, however, it's totally different.

Well I know how to do snap changes in characters so long as there exists a catalyst.

As do I. It's the environment that makes the characterization hard for me.

That's a valid point. My universe is unexplored and enigmatic so there's a lot of leeway.

TheTitanOfGeek In reply to Saffireprowler [2017-05-22 17:58:23 +0000 UTC]
Yes.
Your universe as well as SOS are fictional worlds that we can bend at will in order to construct stories, establish rules, and open up doors for imagination. Waving Hello, however, is mostly based on the world we live in, so they undergo situations that we tend to face on a daily basis, making their characterization even more complicated.

With regards to the real world situation, I try to make Ellie's character more in line with it. A human living in a new world, but she's in a little bit stuck in her human ways and thinking. An example would be that Ellie has little interest in Peli's love interest for various reasons you'll find in our own reality. She doesn't find him to be as attractive as others, he's shorter than she is, he's got a bit of a financial problem. But Peli looks beyond those so easily. It's a good contrast, actually.

TheTitanOfGeek In reply to Saffireprowler [2017-05-22 18:23:10 +0000 UTC]
Sure, but I mean that what my characters in Waving Hello are forced to respond to are events that happen in the real world, as oppose to situations that are crafted by fiction. That's why it's a satire.
