When 18 first arrived... Here
Thyrian hadn't been too happy with all of this 'Kiwistang' stuff going on. Surely there were more important things to spend time on, than taking in a completely wild horse from halfway across the world. Will had found out about the Kaimanawas online and hadn't stopped babbling about them for weeks. It was all ''Poor wild ponies!''-this and ''Gunna be slaughtered! ''-that until Thyrian could finally take it no longer, and had used some, hmm... less refined words. He eventually agreed to adopt one of these poor beasts but had made it very clear the he was not participating in any way! He had his book to focus on. It would be Will's project entirely and it had better not interfere with the everyday maintenance of the farm. Gods knew the place needed some tender loving care.
Will had made the arrangements to have Nr. 18 taken to Scotland and delivered to the little farm in the middle of no-where. About 600 kilos of no-longer-drugged-and-relaxed stallion came barreling out the transporter the moment the double doors were opened, fleeing into the paddock before him. He was an absolute mess! Chipped and overgrown hooves, mane and tail a mess of dreadlocks and tangled up stuff, not to mention that he was high on adrenaline and fear, eyes rolling and glinting white. It had been an interesting day, especially when '18' realized he was fenced in, and had started mock-charging anyone that came too near to the paddock. Thyrian had shown no interest in the new arrival, and after making sure water was plentiful and that the stallion had full access to the dry and warm overhang, Will had left him alone.
The following days were all about baby-steps. 18 was kept isolated out of worry that he could pass on anything to the other horses, but he wasn't alone. Every job that Will could physically pick up and take with him he did, working on small maintenance projects just next to the paddock. He had long conversations with 18, getting the stallion to know his deep voice and that he was no threat. Interestingly enough, once 18 had calmed down after his long travel, his curious side began to surface. He wouldn't come without touching distance, but he was clearly curious about the two-legged creature's work, and followed along the fence whenever Will would walk around.
On the fifth day 18 accepted a hand on his neck, and found that he quite enjoyed those odd wiggly fingers. They got to the itches far better than he could himself and he nearly dosed off until Will gave a soft chuckle. 18 spooked something fierce, taking off at neck-breaking speed until he reached the far end, where he proceeded to look like a fool realizing he'd been spooked by nothing.
Thyrian came around once in a while to chat and stare at the messy horse. Secretly he was surprised to see that within a week, Will had managed to gain 18's trust to the point where he could touch his head and neck. The beast still refused to have his torso or legs touched, but he was obviously relaxed and happily accepted snacks. However, it was obvious that his overgrown feet pained him. Thyrian made arrangements with the vet and farrier and in the blurry course of a day which 18 hardly remembered, full anesthesia and all that, his feet were fixed, his dreadlocks trimmed and his... sensitive parts snipped. He hadn't been adopted for breeding and no one knew what wild side a mare in heat might bring out. The vet proclaimed him healthy and fit which all lead to this very exciting day!

Will watched from afar as Eva and Annabelle approached the paddock fence, curiosity snatched by the stranger on the other side. He had moved 18 earlier, giving him a chance to meet the stable's friendliest mares. Eva and Annabelle were sort of the unofficial greeters, seeming to get along famously with any newcomer and as he watched they lived up to their unofficial titles. Sniffing and snorting, nose bumping and puffing, 18 was clearly excited to have company. Will chuckled to himself and folded his arms on top of the blanket he'd brought with. He almost didn't hear Thyrian as he walked over and hopped up to sit on the fence.
''Yaknow, '' the red head started thoughtfully as he eyed the three animals. ''I didn't think y-you'd get this far. I mean, a w-wild stallion? I thought you'd g-give up or he'd b-bash your brains in or something... ''
Will looked up with a smile and gave a faint shrug. ''Ah made it this far. Shouldn't be too hard ter break 'im in, '' he said. ''He's a smart buggah. Trusting too, 'n he's amazing when he moves! Ye can't tell with that hairdo, but he'll look fantastic. ''
Thyrian's nose wrinkled some as he stared at the gelding with his chop-shop mane and tail. He didn't look like he'd win prizes anywhere. ''What do ya think they're talking about? '' Will asked with a smirk. ''...Probably his gorgeous new haircut. ''
