Mother: Solveig, age 75, first wife and a retired farmer. A gritty old mare who keeps house with an iron hoof. You better not try and skip corners or you will never hear the end of it. Hippocampus, NPC Alive.
Father's Second Wife: Hedvig, age 70, retired herder and a sweet old lady who just wants to put some meat on your bones! She is a brilliant cook and traditional comfort foods are her speciality. Horse, NPC Deceased - 1699.
Father's Third Wife: Embla, age 28. Slipped and fell to her death when attempting to locate a lost lamb during a storm. Horse, NPC Deceased - 1659.

Sister: Dagny, age 56 (hippocampus)
Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. A large, tight-knit family.
Friends:
Morrigan - She's proven to be pretty good company. Knows her stuff and has aided Thormod quite a few times. She provides free protecting in return for riveting stories! And company. And possibly a bit of flirting. She's a semi-partner in crime. Thormod might not trust her 100% yet, but she has been exceptionally helpful!
Gil - Thormod got hired by this slick bastard to fight in his pit. Thor won a bunch of shards and became rather... enthralled by Gil's personality. Thormod spends time with the commoner whenever he can.
Sarim - Acquainted through Gil and Thormod quickly found that he very much like the flashy stallion's company. Seems to be one of the few equines Thormod doesn't mind sharing his wealth with. (He's a pretty Aodhian and Thormod might be a little blinded, ok!)
Familiar: None
Trivia:
- Thormod is not blind to his own greed and is ever practical, even when tempted by shiny shards.
- Can be paid for shady services, such as smuggling goods and might even perform the odd muscle job here and there.
- Hates the sight and smell of blood. Makes him queasy though he will never say so out loud.
- Has a weak spot for pretty dolled-up Aodhians of any gender.
- Used to herd sheep when he was younger and cannot stand the smell of wet, unprocessed wool. Also thinks that sheep are mindless, stupid creatures. He hates them.
- Only those involved in the event know that Thormod's scarification came from a drunken dare. For every question, he has a different story and it varies wildly.
- He hated the scars at first and was close to paying a healer to have them removed, but over time he has grown to accept them. With many unexpected compliments, he now enjoys the decoration and couldn't imagine parting with them.
Personality
Practical | Charming | Hoarder | Tough | Fraudulent | Money-Grubbing
Practical
Sensible and realistic in their approach to a situation or problem
Thormod is a practical stallion in almost every aspect of his life. He owns just enough personal items to make travelling comfortable without giving up on space for inventory. Most of his tools serve dual purposes and he has quite a knack for coming up with new ways of repurposing items. Nothing goes to waste and where others might see broken garbage, Thormod sees possibilities and maybe a few shards saved to line his pocket.
He will never waste shards on frivolous and petty things that serve no real purpose other than feeding vanity. Any jewellery he might own had almost certainly been gifted. All of his clothing have been mended a hundred times over, and unless it falls apart with no chance of salvage, he won't buy anything new. Second hand only! Preferably free.
Charming
Very pleasant
The golden brute can be very charming when he wants to. It is absolutely one of his key strategies to sell his wares. Mares he will flatter and stallions he will compliment, using small talk to get a feel for his customer, before forming a plan of 'attack'. He can be pushy, sure, but it is with such alluring energy that many find it hard to turn down his sales pitches.
Hoarder
The Accumulator™
As practically minded as he is, Thormod sometimes finds it a little... challenging to let go of things. His small home near Skeldr Town is brimming with junk! He has the best intentions for all of it, meaning do to repairs or repurpose and then sell his goods. But the truth of the matter is that he finds it very difficult to let go once an item has become part of a 'project'. Sometimes he manages to crank out something wonderful and useful and he has been able to sell a few restored pieces, but at least 95% of everything he gathers with good intentions, ends up in the hoard.
Tough
A rough stallion
It can be difficult to overcome a dark past and reshape yourself into something brighter and better. Thormod tries to move forward but there is no denying that his past has turned him into one tough cookie. Woe is the sucker who thinks Thormod is a pushover because they will be met with furious determination. This guy is no stranger to fighting and he will gladly demonstrate, especially when alcohol has been flowing heavily.
There is no crying over spilt milk, and unless the bone is poking through your skin, you can still keep going! Softies have no place in the world and Thormod has little tolerance for them. Unless he happens to be doing business with them.
Fraudulent
Criminal deception
If he believes he can get away with it, Thormod will cheat the ever-living-snot out of you for some extra shards. He's a swindling swine, an unscrupulous urchin and a double-dealing dog! He's so good at it, he's yet to be caught and it is getting to his head, making him take unnecessary risks from time to time. He will smuggle wares, he will falsify craftsman's marks and worst of all is probably the fact that he doesn't care about the consequences. He will willingly sell you a shitty sword and not feel a shred of responsibility when said sword breaks and causes unwanted harm.
Money-Grubbing
Overeager to make money
He wasn't always driven by a desire to accumulate wealth, but over the years it grew from a small hunger to an all-consuming and overpowering hunger. Perhaps it was the brief glimpses of Aodhian wealth and opulence which drove the change home, or perhaps it just took years for the ugliness to raise its head. Thormod craves fortune and he is constantly looking for ways to get more, more, more. He most definitely has a hidden stash of shards if not several stashes and lives frugally until he can make the trek back to Eithne and live like a king for his short visit. He makes sure to never go in the red and even after a splurge visit has more than enough shards hidden away. If only he would share with those who truly need it...
HistoryPre-Group Activity
Thormod was going to be a herder, or at the very least a farmer, to follow in the family's hoofsteps. A blacksmith was also acceptable since it could benefit the family, but any dreams of flying far from his roots and above were squashed swiftly and effectively by his father, Fritjof. He himself had never attained any of his lofty, youthful dreams, so he would spare his son the ache by taking away the option entirely. Birth mother Solveig approved of her husband's tough love and employed the same tactics, though her's were from a more pragmatic standpoint. If her son took off to chase wild dreams, there would be more work for everybody else.
As Thormod grew from a leggy colt to a broody teen, so did the budding wanderlust in his chest expand dramatically. It was hardly sated by herding sheep and he constantly yearned for new sights and fresh horizons. He sought comfort with his second mother, Hedvig, whose parenting was much gentler, incorporating more love and support. She had always disagreed with her husband's methods and would encourage the young colt to follow his heart and his dreams, by sharing stories both fact and fiction. She made Thormod believe that there was a chance for him outside of the family career, the mindless herding of dumb mindless animals and that he had a chance to achieve glory.
After gathering much courage, Thormod went to his father and announced that he would become a Raider. First Fritjof ridiculed his son, then he scolded him and finally, he forbade Thormod from leaving, grounding him for the remainder of the summer season. This meant he wouldn't be travelling with the herds, but staying home to attend menial tasks with the mares, getting absolutely no satisfaction for his wanderlust. A fight broke out, or rather a shouting match which Thormod lost, retreating to the barn to nurse his wounded pride and cry in solitude. The fierce, rebellious anger possessed by so many teenagers grew unbearably hot, and Thormod decided nothing would stand in the way of his dream.
Left at home with the mares while his brothers and father took off with the herd, Thormod's rebellion grew at a steady pace as he slowly went stir-crazy, confined to the home farm. Solveig and Hedvig could agree on the terrible temper brewing in the young stallion, and so they softened the harsh punishment, allowing Thormod to wander the familiar valley when his tasks were done. That gave him exactly enough freedom to train in hiding and plot his future as a Raider. Of course, his homemade workout was nothing compared to the real deal, but it helped him push through the punishment and build a good amount of muscle.
As time passed, Thormod never once brought up his plans. He waited, he worked, he grew and trained and the moment he became a legal adult, he said his goodbyes and left to chase his dream. His only regret was leaving Hedvig, the one member of his family who had been supportive. Through hard work and determination, Thormod proved himself to be Raider material, and with a couple of years of proper mentoring he finally took on the illustrious rank, and his dream reached its crescendo! Now the future was nothing but blindingly bright and he would prove to his family how wrong they had been!
But... Thormod soon found that he absolutely hated this path in life. This was not a glorious dream build on the foundation of Hedvig's stories. This was gritty, dark and bloody. But Thormod was dedicated. He had come this far and was not about to turn and run away. It wasn't possible for him to return home regardless, so he squared his jaw and prepared to soldier on. Somehow he would make it work! His dreams would come true and for five years he stubbornly stuck to this Raider path, although his performance declined dramatically. Reality gave him a hard slap in the face, bursting through his bubble as he found himself demoted from Raider, following a particularly nasty incident involving too much alcohol. Someone important got hurt, and Thormod paid the price for his stupidity.
Cut loose and on his own, with enough shards to wallow in alcoholic self-pity for days, Thormod considered crawling back to his family, beg forgiveness and hopefully resume life as a sheepherder. It would hurt and it would only prove his father right and shame Thormod further, but what other choice did he have? He shared a few drinks with a stranger, glad for the distraction, and learned that the stranger, Ralph, was a travelling merchant looking to hire muscle. It would be a short job, a few weeks at most, a simple escort really, and it would give Thormod a few more shards to bring home as a peace offering.
Thormod ended up travelling with Ralph for three years, forming a strong friendship with the merchant. Ralph taught him the tricks of the trade when Thormod showed an honest interest in his profession, and the former-Raider took to his new life like a fish in water. This was not the great and epic adventures he had been fed as a child, but it was the freedom to roam wherever he wanted, freedom to be his own master, and that, he realised, was all he ever wanted. That... and wealth.
Eventually, Ralph and Thormod parted ways on good terms, and Thormod took all of his lessons and applied them to become a successful merchant himself. It was a bit of a struggle to start out on his own, but practical decisions and stubbornness helped pave the way. He spent the next twelve years as a travelling merchant with varying degrees of success, building steady contacts across Onea and Eithne. Only once did he return to his homestead and was surprised to be welcomed warmly by siblings and mothers. Even bitter old Fritjof was relieved to see his son alive, but their relationship never mended and continues to be cold and distant. Not that it bothers Thormod because he continues to wander Hireath free as a bird, selling whatever wares are in his cart.
Nothing could possibly disturb this peace of his and brewing war only offers opportunities for a clever Merchant. Thormod is in his element.
