Description

CAPTAIN'S LOG

We have received sensor readings indicating a time-space distortion in our vicinity.  And so our investigation begins.

Captain Venthen approached the viewscreen.  As usual, she liked to be at the front.  Whether this an Andorian trait or just a personal quirk the crew didn't  know.  It was just something the crew got used to.

"Captain," LtCdr Selin announced, "an object is emerging from the distortion."

    "Show it!"

Ens M'Pinga put the image on the view screen.  In front of them was a ship that combined, to Captain Venthen's eyes, combined all of the worst elements of Terran, Andorian and Vulcan ship designs.

Venthen right hand and antennae pointed at the screen. "What in the blue hell is that?"

Cdr Kanaris, as ever, replied in his dry style. "It is a ship, Captain. EVC-197-ORVILLE, to be exact."

    "How do you know that?"

"How do YOU not?" asked LtCdr Price, her chief Engineer. "It's written on the side in huge letters."

"Don't be funny, Mr. Price.  Karny, give them a shout out.  Let's find out who they are."

    As for what happens later...

"What's the news, Mr. Price?"  Captain Venthen asked.

"Well, we've almost got the Major off of the bulkhead.  As for why she's here, she keeps saying something about a jar of pickles."

Over the intercom Captain Venthen could hear a sound similar to a suction cup being removed and the thud of a human form hitting the floor.

"There she goes, though we might not be able to get the imprint of the Major's face off of it."

The Major spoke. "Don't be cute, Derrick!  Carter, bring me the flechette pistol.  I think I'm going to have to kill the little bitch."

And there we have it.

After the Orville comes through the Distortion.

Ed Mercer: What is that?
Gordon Malloy: it looks like a Constitution class from Star trek Captain.
Isaac: what is Star trek?
Ed Mercer: It's an old Earth show.
Isaac: I see.
Kelly Grayson: The ships name appears to be the USS Jeanne D'Arc NCC-1731.
Ed Mercer: I can see her Saucer Kelly.

LaMarr: Man, if they have an Andorian commanding that thing this could end in us getting shot!

Isaac: What is an Andorian?

Malloy: They're blue aliens.

Alara: What, you mean like Durulio?

LaMarr: No.  Andorians have smooth skin and antennae.

Malloy: And they don't have, you know, blue stuff coming out of their heads.  And they are kinda in a permanent state of ready to blow their tops.

Alara: We are being hailed.

Mercer: On screen.

LaMarr: I'm not looking.  What do you see.

Bortus: I see an Andorian.

LaMarr: DAMN!

Alara: Awwww!  They have a kitty-girl on their bridge!

Malloy:  Hey, she looks like she might have a nice set of blue boobs.  Heh, Blewbs!

Captain Venthen: What did he say?!!!

Mercer: Oh my god! Sorry!

Kelly: You'll have to forgive us.  Our helmsman's an idiot.

Cap V:  Same here, only it's my navigator.

Ed Mercer vs. Tarah Venthen.  My money's on our favorite Andorian!

Science officer: Captain, the ship's configuration would seem to suggest it was designed by nightmare abominations from a nether-dimension.  I'm not reading any eldritch horrors on scanners, but the ship configuration is suspicious.

It does make "Jane's Fighting Spaceships" a bit redundant when everyone writes their ships' names and registrations on them in letters several meters high!
