Thank you. Since I have started visiting DeviantART and after joining I have learnt so much about art and different techniques, but I'm still gathering information and before reading this tutorial I knew nothing about chromatology. It helps so much when people like you take time out of your life to make a tutorial like this.

The section on colour theory was really helpful! I've been looking, but haven't been able to find anything that clearly lays things out like that. Most articles don't explain colour theory very well.
Do you think you could link me to the chromotology basics article? (if it's in English)

Very good tips for beginners! The mistakes you talked about are definitely ones a lot of beginners make, including myself when I was younger and just starting out. I'm happy to see someone is trying to help by driving away beginners from making these mistakes! ^^ I also love that you gave examples to support what you wrote.

What's really weird though is that you forgot a major tip that could stop beginning artists from relying on symbols and save them a lot of grief. It's to tell them not to start with stylized art immediately and draw from life! Drawing stylized art first teaches them to start with symbols, and hinders them because they don't know how something actually works or what something actually looks like. It's a HUGE mistake pretty much every artist makes that hinders them for a long time. That's pretty important. Hope it's covered in Part 2!!

Thank you About drawing from life I wrote in Part 3, but I don't know when I can put it on DA, because I'm not finish it yet. Part 2 you can find here [link] but on Russian. I don't know when one good girl will can translate it. My English is awful and this tips must be with a good grammar.

Do these color things also apply when coloring anime pictures? Just so I can make sure, knowing this stuff beforehand will make things a lot easier, so I don't get hung up on tools like that.

By the way, when I say foundation, I mean kinda of like, essentials for an artist before drawing stylized work in a nutshell. Hope that makes sense. XD

baroquestarlet In reply to AriannaTheKeybearer [2011-10-09 01:01:45 +0000 UTC]

Anime is just a style, so color theory of course applies. Color theories is just part of the foundation.

AriannaTheKeybearer In reply to baroquestarlet [2011-10-09 01:20:44 +0000 UTC]

Alright, so color theory is like, rules? Axioms for art? And yeah, your previous comment makes sense, foundation. I just was asking because I am still working on sketching, working on a sketch style that works for me, or will prove useful later in coloring, I'm still working stuff out.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

SaisonRomantique In reply to AriannaTheKeybearer [2011-10-09 08:00:03 +0000 UTC]

The Color Theory IS basic which must to learn one day every artists Doesn't matter in what style you are drawing and is it digital media or traditional media.

if you want to work on your drawing skills in general, the best thing you can do is draw from life (life drawing and figure studies) and let your style develop naturally.
