Description
The two of you began walking away from the area, while Link was whistling Epona's Song. Within seconds, you could see the form of Epona coming over the horizon.

"How does she hear you from that far away..?" you wondered.

Link, still whistling, had either not heard your question or had dismissed it.

You shrugged, watching the horse draw nearer.

Eventually, the three of you had met near a tree. As usual, Link pulled himself onto the horse's back before helping you up, and commanded the horse to begin trotting straight after. Quickly, Epona broke into a gallop and began advancing at a speedy pace towards the desired destination.

By the time you all reached the Lost Woods, it was dusk. The sun, which was previously in the centre of the sky, was now half below the horizon on the west side, and was descending rapidly.

"Should we sleep for the night or continue?" you questioned, peering at the sky.

"Either way, it'll be pitch black inside the woods," he shrugged.

"True. Let's just keep going, then."

"If you say so."

"Unless you want to sleep, of course?"

"No, I'm fine."

"Okay, then let's go."

The two of you entered the Lost Woods, doing the best you could to see through the fog.

"Can you see anything?" you looked in every direction, only seeing a cloud of fog.

"Nope," Link sighed.

"Hopefully it's clearer further on."

The two of you trotted on, relying on Epona's sense of direction. Eventually, you came to an area with tree stumps littering a clearing. Link gently tugged on Epona's reins, signalling for her to come to a halt. She did, and the two of you looked around, finally regaining your sense of sight. As you peered around, Link began digging around in the saddlebag, supposedly looking for something.

You could see something in the corner of your eye. When you turned your head to see what it was, it was gone.

"What the..." You began frantically looking around, desperate to see whatever it was.

"Hm?" Link looked up for a second before continuing to rummage through the bag.

"I saw something," you continued looking around.

"What was it?"

"I dunno; it disappeared before I got a chance to have a proper look at it," you sighed.

"How strange," he nonchalantly responded.

You gave up searching for the thing and assumed it was just your imagination. At least, that's what you were trying to convince yourself.

Out of nowhere two fairies, one red and one yellow, flew out of nowhere and fluttered around Epona's snout, startling her. The horse reared up, subsequently knocking you and Link off.

"Ouch," you mumbled, sitting up and rubbing your head.

You looked to your left and you saw a masked creature fiddling with what looked like an ocarina.

"Is that..?" you wondered aloud, startling the imp and causing him to jump in shock.

Next to you, you could feel Link sitting up.

"Hey! My ocarina!" He stood up and stared down the masked kid.

"I think it's a Skull Kid," you pondered, "is this what happens to kids who get lost in the forest...?"

Link lunged at the Skull Kid but it was too quick for him. It jumped up onto Epona and gave her a sharp kick, making her quickly break into a canter.

You jumped to your feet and began chasing the two to no avail. Seeing no point in running any further, you flung yourself forward and grabbed the horse's leg, holding on with all your might. Link grabbed the other leg of the horse, causing the kid to mumble something and then proceed to take sharp turns around trees, quickly covering Link and yourself in scratches and bruises.

After a few minutes of this, the imp lead the horse through a gap in the trees that was only just as thin as the horse, therefore knocking you and Link off. Immediately, the two of you jumped to your feet and gave chase.

The Skull Kid had already disappeared from sight, but the two of you kept running in the direction he went.

While running, the both of you failed to realise that there was a giant hole in the earth, only noticing when you were both wobbling on the edge of it.

You tried as hard as you could to keep your balance, managing to keep it longer than your companion, who quickly slipped and went falling down the gap. Needless to say, you lost your composure and went tumbling as well.

The tunnel seemed to be endless, you felt like you were falling forever.
