Description
I warned you I was on a Rayman kick, I warned you.To recap:
Isra: very angry teenage knaaren torn between embracing a newly found outside world and staying true to her much beloved but very violent culture. Is now traveling with Rayman, Globox and Andre, initially out of a sense of grim duty because Rayman 'won' her from Reflux in the arena, but later out of genuine affection and loyalty. Still, this causes her a lot of inner conflict.
Sargon: Isra's much more well adjusted brother with a more optimistic outlook on things and more peaceful mentality, and wants to help his fellow knaaren survive in a new world and hopefully bring about positive change in them. Begins as a laughing stock of the tribe but ends as a fearless leader who cares deeply about his people. He very much wants to ally the rebel knaaren with the Faerie council but the task is difficult.
Well I hadn't drawn Sargon in, like, forever. I also wanted to finally nail down Isra's age and the age gap between the two of them. And get a concrete idea for their markings.
WB!Knaaren fun facts: Knaaren receive unique facial tattoos when they reach puberty, which are seen as much apart of their identity as their names and are carefully chosen. It's the first truly adult decision that they make, and is also a passage rite in the sense that they have successfully survived childhood. The tattoos are always earth toned, which includes red, white, yellow and black. In special circumstances, a young Knaaren get their tattoos before puberty, as with the case of Gumsi, who took charge of the tribe at age 8 after the disappearance of his father. Gumsi currently rules at age 13.
Character fun facts: Isra and Sargon would've been 12 and 14 respectively when their mother died, during the time that they were sealed underground during the pirate invasion in Great Escape. Rayman would've been 18 at the time, putting his age at 24 during the events of Hoodlum Havoc and by proxy, Worlds Below. This also puts him and Isra at a five year age gap.

God I absolutely love their background stories and overall look! So original! I always loved the way Knaarens looked, especially their somewhat insectoid feet!

Lol Your description cracks me up,and it's kinda true.
I also checked your knaaren body types and I totally love that, they probably are the only race/species apart from teensies in the series to have some sort of cultural lore behind it(and seems like an antithesis of them)
Now I just wish I had the same character design Imaginations as you(as in ooms). Because I keep putting knaaren(in another name) or anything similar to what I like in my personal project and that would break the copyright if it was serious/commercial.

Thank you! Since I've done a lot of these I've started to draw the females a little more gauntly cheeked and give their backs more of a slope, just cause I noticed I was playing into that pitfall that fantasy races often get stuck in of "the male of the species is huge and stooped and the female of the species is still conventionally proportioned". I'd like to redo those charts someday...so many plans so little time, lol.
It's tricky to try and convert all of the world building you do for a franchise into your own stuff. I've cannibalized a lot of my old fan characters and fan lore and taken it to other places, I don't think it's a bad thing as long there's more of you in your creation than there is things connecting it to the source material. Like, I think it's fine to use fan material as a springboard, you've just got to go the extra mile to really make the concept your own.

I've always adored these guys and their story. I can't imagine how they manage to get along (if they do at all!), considering they're practically foils to one another. And I don't even want to start thinking about what their father thinks of them.
Isra's particularly interesting because she starts out as, for lack of a better word, complete bitch, although you can't hate her for it entirely. She still deserves sympathy, considering her state of mind due to the limitations she's faced with in her warlike, patriarchal culture. She's the kind of character I can see others messing with just to get a reaction.
And they are SOOOO CUTE when they're widdle!!

Thanks, it's a story that while I haven't actively pursued it in awhile, is still dear to my heart and one I like a lot.
Isra and Sargon get along shockingly well because Sargon has infinite patience and understanding with her, and she recognizes that and it calms her down. Sargon is really the only person she feels safe being vulnerable around, so she is a lot less high octane when in his private company, though they do have a lot of ideological differences between them that they often debate/argue about. They love each other very much, and also empathize with and respect one another a lot because they are both outcasts, just in different ways. Their father (Nexus) is not violent or angry with them or anything, but he is obviously kind of ashamed and disappointed and wishes that Isra was the boy and Sargon was the girl. Still, he obviously cares about them, and his last actions with them respectively are allowing Isra to go free to pursue a different, better life and backing up Sargon as he challenges Leptys' rally for war.
And yeah Andre in particular antagonizes Isra pretty often because he's kind of a dick and she's easy to get upset, haha.

Thank you, I'd like to think they're interesting! I'd actually like to do more with them, but I tend to get bouts of inspiration for this series and then forget about it, so we'll see how far this wave carries me.
