Spinel was made just like a normal gem, but with a twist: her hair were worms on a string instead of gem hair. She went along with it; there was nothing she could do, but when Pink Diamond moved on and tricked her into playing a game of waiting, the worms started to talk. First, they tried to convince her that PD was coming back, that she just needed to play the game long enough to make her happy. But then, as the years went on, the words of encouragement turned to doubt. They told her that 'maybe she didn't want to play with you', and things like that. Soon, she saw Steven's broadcast and Spinel was so emotionally damaged that she reformed, and the worms along with her.

Now in a new form, the worm's eyes turned to diamonds, to remind Spinel of Pink Diamond. They grew strings and wrapped around her arms, limiting her movement if it wasn't what they wanted. They fed thoughts to her mind, telling her she wasn't good enough for Pink, and that they needed to eliminate Steven for good. She eventually gives in to the pressure, and goes to earth.
