the third Blue Beetle for Daily Sketch Challenge. 30 minutes. photoshop.I actually really like all three incarnations of the Blue Beetle... that's unusual for legacy heroes. I actually liked Ted Kord before he became a comedic character in Justice League. Blue Beetle art by Paris Cullins is actually pretty influential to me! I also have a Secret Origins with the original BB and Ted Kord origins in one book, drawn by Gil Kane that's pretty effing SWEET! lol...
Anyways, this is the tejano Beetle designed by Cully Hamner. great design!
I had fun on this one. It came out easy! Hope you like it...

I totally dig the new BB... which for me is like a love hate relation since I loved the original character from the Justice League America Run ( the one with the Booster Gold and Blue Beetle infamous Bwahaha laughter)
I hated how the Killed the old BB... still to this day I never felt so sad with the death of a fictional character. The New BB is awesome and somehow I feel a little guilty because of that... again, strong feelings with a fictional character

I never got into the Giffen Macguire JLA as much (i liked what I read, which wasn't much), but always liked Ted Kord going back to his solo series (you might enjoy the blog post about the Blue Beetle lineage I wrote on GhettoManga [link] ). I felt the same way about the Dan Jurgens Booster Gold series, too.
I was really irritated about the death of Ted Kord. He was treated like a character that didn't matter, and I felt that was unfair. more and more, DC and Marvel behave editorially as if only the really popular characters matter and everyone else is crap and unimportant. That irks me, since some of my favorite characters are d-listers (or former D-listers like Daredevil).

I totally agree. The sad part of killing Ted Kord was to make space for the new Blue Beetle. The writers are taking the easy way out in terms of writing new material for "old" characters. I'm telling you if some writers could they would already had killed the Batman, Superman or other characters that we all know and like.
A good writer is one that takes what's established and works within the boundaries of that.
It's easier to repair a car engine by replacing it with a new one but a true mechanic will find what's wrong with the old engine and fix it... The same rules should apply for writers.

I'm not against creating new characters, but that shouldn't require killing the old one. They could have easily given the scarab to this kid without killing Ted Kord.
The worst part is, that character didn't last long anyways.
