drew this a long time ago... I was digging through my pile(s) of loose sketches and found this. plain pencil drawing on computer paper. One of my favorite sketches ever.I've never been a smoker, but I love drawing people smoking. Obviously, I got deep with it in this one!

Heh, I like to draw smokers, too. I've never smoked a day in my life and I think it's pretty gross, but for some reason, fun to draw.

My mom was a heavy smoker when I was a kid. I grew up in a cloud of smoke you could see light pass through. As a result, smoking held absolutely no allure for me.
In art, smoking takes on a whole new significance. Let's say you draw a picture that isn't quite working. A few things almost ALWAYS save it, and one is to draw a cigarette in a person's mouth or hand. A little expressive trail of smoke and a drawing, no matter how lame, starts coming back to the light.

There's something kind of mysterious about it and thus makes for a great addition to a drawing.
