Description
I’ve been asked a few times about how I make the background stuff in my silhouette wallpapers; usually I just reply directly, but I thought I'd put together a short tutorial instead! Let me know if anything is unclear, or if I made any typos or other mistakes… And feel free to ask questions.Hopefully it's helpful!

Thank you for showing this. I love your work. Just a few questions. How do you make the pony outlines? And do you have to buy adobe illustrator?

Thanks! The outlines are made tracing over my own sketches in Illustrator (there's an example post of some sketches-to-outlines over on my tumblr). Illustrator is a paid software, but there's also a completely free program called Inkscape which can also be used to make vector artwork - it's a good way to get started without having to purchase anything

That some extremely clever illustrator usage there. I've always wondered how you got the chaotic look to the backgrounds, that kind of stuff is hard to do by hand. Thanks so much for making this. :3

Hi, i tried something simliar a few days ago, but i had some trouble with the created objects. Everyone contains ~30 000 nodes and working with them often crashed my programm. Any advise?

Hmm, it looks like there were about 163,000 nodes total in the expanded result for the sample image I used here. I had trouble running Image Trace on my previous computer, so it may be a specs issue? Does it work okay if you use a significantly lower-resolution image?

It probably was an spec issue.
I asked a friend to try to use the image trace function and on his pc it worked perfectly fine
At home on my laptop i had the same trouble again

That's a really brilliant technique! It gets that natural texture look into the vector art without having to kill yourself doing it by hand. I love it!
