I painted this for my class on the Vietnam War. Essentially it's an homage to some of the Vietnam War films we have watched, particularly Full Metal Jacket.© Sam Burley - Do not use without permission

Glad you like it. My impression of the Vietnam War is not at all in favor of the Americans if that's what you're getting at though. The reasons for being there were flawed and just created a a bad situation for everyone. It was a terrible loss of life on either side and destroyed so much of what seems to be a really beautiful country. That's what I was trying to convey with this, but maybe that's not clear.

I agree, usually i support the US, but i'm in Cambodia for this next year and the aftermath of that war are so bad they are still dealing with them today. I believe it would all ave ended better for everyone if we hadn't just pulled out and abandoned everyone in the middle of it. Doing so let the asian equivalent of Adolf Hitler take control of Cambodia and wipe out a whole generation. Saloth Sar (Pol Pot)

Your paint is very beautiful and realistic, it was a great job... but I couldn't understand what it exactly means (probably because I never watched Full Metal Jacket XD )

Thanks. The image is more or less inspired by a scene in the movie when we get a sniper's vantage point aiming down at a lone soldier in the rubble of a city. It had this great framing and overall mood that really evoked a sense of danger and carnage. That's what I was going for... and I suppose to some extent as a commentary on the war itself. I wouldn't say the amercians were defeated, but rather everyone lost

Issues? I don't think so mate. Nice view, the colour palette is just right for this in my opinion. Great smoke clods as well. the only thing I would possibly change is to add a little more brighter orange beneath the closet two smoke stacks, just to hint more at some building or vegetation burning.
