Part of a top secret experiment by the government to create an army of super soldiers to battle the countless demons and other supernatural phenomenons plaguing the planet, US marine Mike Callahan, code named "Happy" volunteered for "PROJECT DEAD MAN". As the trials commenced Mike's body was heavily modified and mutilated beyond recognition. The immeasurable pain drove him insane and ultimately killed him. Proclaimed a failure, his body was disposed of quite unceremoniously. Sometime later Mike had healed and was resurrected. Whatever they did to him had turned him into a living zombie unable to die. He also gained supernatural ghost like abilities such as the power to posses people. he could phase through walls and other objects and also had the power of telekinesis. He eventually regained some part of his sanity and got a hold of his new powers he went on a blood thirsty rampage. When word got out about an unknown creature with spectral abilities, the government continued with "PROJECT DEAD MAN" hoping to perfect it and create a superior "DEAD MAN" soldier to dispose of Callahan. Dead Man 01 had used his possession to read the minds of the scientist he tracked down and learned that "PROJECT DEAD MAN" was not created to eliminate the monsters, that was just an excuse to create an army to help the american government take over the world and the main investor that helped achieve this goal was a weapon company called Global-Tek. He then decided he would single handily tear down the corrupted system and destroy this Global-Tek. After modifying his military gear and painting an old hockey mask yellow like a smiley face he set out to destroy everything Global-tek had built. If they wanted chaos they were going to get chaos.
