Description
Sometimes, the simplest structures have the most important jobs.Rio Moya & Northern Cooke mogul #18 tests the recently rebuilt bridge over the namesake river, now devoid of bents and resting upon two large retaining walls amongst the rocks, providing stronger support for the roadbed and rails, and a wider path for flowing water and debris that grace the otherwise dry river.
A good thing too - The night before this photograph hosted a fierce thunderstorm, dumping a whole lot of water and causing flash flooding on the railroad that was successfully alleviated with the drainage pipes and the bridge. The rain caused some minor trouble with ballast in a few areas, but all damage has already been corrected, thanks to the tireless efforts of the workmen that keep the fledgling railroad running.
#18, pictured, is running light along the right of way to clear any stray debris on the track, and check on the mainline as a whole. Once the task was complete, the locomotive resumed its regular revenue duties for the rest of the day.
