Description
A garland-trimmed Rio Moya & Northern #18 and its crew daydream of a wedge plow as the 2-6-0 locomotive continuously rams through 2-3ft of thick, wet snow that has blanketed the entirety of the railroad. Coming as a relative surprise after many weeks of unusually sunny and warm weather in the month of December, the locomotive was tasked with opening the line for regular traffic when clear weather and sunshine shooed the storm away. Its job, and the line, is only halfway done...

I'll admit it: watching a steamer buck-plowing snow is fun, but hell to the loco crew. It is really no wonder whyΒ plow teamsΒ loved rotaries & Jordan Spreaders.

Its probably cause rotarys are just awesome, they way towers of smoke snort out of the stack as snow is helplessly thrown aside and it slowly but surly moves foward.
If you can't agree that's awesome, or a fop, the worst kind of fop

Someday soon a wedgy blade will slice and destroy and shove the snow aside instead of a cowcatcher and the general mass of the locomotive ramming through the snow.
And thanks. Tis the season!

>< This reminds me that I seriously need to convert my k-27 to battery power, andthat I still need to find components to make my rotary.
Anyway, This is a very nice shot. Nice touch with the pipe cleane- Err Christmas decorations.

I'm in the Midwest USA. The mainline sees 1:1 scale four foot drifts.

Yeah #18 got angry with the snow. Especially when it refused to budge and caused regular wheelslip.

Rotaries are too expensive. A wedge plow is planned for the line someday soon.
