Merida (gestures toward Hiccup): Mother, Father, here is the man i want for husband.
(The Queen looks unsure, while King Fergus scratches his head.)
Fergus: Meeehh... Are ya sure about that? That lad doesn't have a lot of meat around the bones... and he's missin' a leg!
Merida: So are you. (her father snorts, as it is the truth. Queen Elinor smiles politely at their guest and her daughter's apparent choice.)
Elinor: Not wishing to criticize your taste, Merida, but... I do wonder what your marriage to this young man could bring to our kingdom.
(Merida shares a knowing smile with Hiccup before shrugging)
Merida: Oh, you know, a brave, smart and compationate leader...
(in the background, her horse Angus appears beside Toothless, the two of them being all buddy-buddy)
Merida (with a smirk): ...who just happens to be a dragon trainer.
(Queen Elinor's jaw drops while the King, after overcoming his initial shock, bursts out laughing.)
Fergus: Now, that's the kind of man I like! Son, you're staying for dinner, tonight! (With way too much enthusiasm, he slaps the poor boy on his back and inadvertedly sends him face first on the ground)

one thing i love about this ship - is both of them feel the pressure of their parent's expectations. Merida's expected to act like a proper princess. Hiccup's expected to act more like a viking. both have odd childhood and have rocky relationships with their parents. and in the end of both movies, all they need is to prove their worth that they can change their fate if they'll just be given a chance.
oh and historical fact: trace scotland's history and during the 8th - 9th century - Vikings came to Scotland to raid and settle in there. and after the 10th century there are already vikings and highlanders who married/ interbred.
consider the fact that merida's a scot and hiccup's a viking. and what do you got? a whole lot of crazy fandoms, fanfictions and fan arts.
oh and i freaking love you. i missed the gale week. darn. i want so badly to join that otp week.
