Description This is a character that my son Noah created just recently. At first Noah was going to call him "Cross Man". But then with some help from Dad, he settled on the name "Light Shield". Which was actually a name I was going to use for a different character and Noah swiped it! Noah conceived of this guy's look entirely down to cape, domino mask, and colors. He says that Light Shield has light based powers and that different colors do different things. I'll have to push him to see what red and yellow do. Oh, he can fly and is super strong and can probably generate a powerful force field.

Any how, Light Shield is a Christian hero (hence the cross). He is also good friends with Cele-De.

Noah has such an excellent imagination!

If all else fails, take a look at Halo from the Outsiders for Light Shield's powers for his colors.

Which is quite a cool powerset.

Nicely done, sounds like you and your son share a gift for creativity. I'm always glad to see Christian heroes!

Oh thanks man. Yeah, Noah and I have fun together. This one is a good example of that fun collaboration. This was entirely Noah's idea. I've actually been thinking he and I need to do something new. Perhaps a Christian heroine?? That could be cool.

Yeah! I don't think I've seen a lot of Christian Heroines. I've seen a slew of super-powered brothers in The Lord, not sure I've seen any sisters.

I've seen just a couple (and the ones I've seen are pretty wimpy really). As you say, there's a ton of brothers and very few sisters. I'd love to see a really high powered Christian heroine on the level of a Wonder Woman or something. I kind of like to muse from time to time what it might be like if some of the really iconic heroes were Christians. What would it be like if Wonder Woman were a Christian? Oh well...just a thought. Ha!

I know what you mean. I actually at one point thought about writing a story about how Superman is a Christian (I figure small-town farm boy from Kansas, it's most probable he was raised some sort of protestant) and how he deals with his powers emotionally and spiritually, and how he reacts to the near worship the people give them. But I think there's a good reason we never hear religious backgrounds on the "Big" superheroes. I think they want to keep them in a state where anybody can relate to them. Still, I think it'd be interesting. Which is why I'm planning on giving religious points of view (of all sorts) to my characters if I ever really write any comics. I want protestant heroes and catholic heroes and atheist heroes and jewish heroes, etc and I while it's not something I want to dwell on, it'd be neat to have some interaction based on views of faith every once in a while as part of the drama of the stories. Wow, I can sure type a streak.

That sounds really interesting.

Btw, I did have one Christian female hero that I did not that long ago. But she's not entierly original. She's actually an amalgam of my OC hero Tempest and Vagabond's wonderful OC Christian here: [link]

I may one day due a heroine called Lorica (b/c I love that name and the symbolism behind it). But I'll probably change her look somewhat and definitely her powers.

Cool! I like her! What about the Celtic Cross as the costume emblem?

Yeah, he’s a great resource. I am constantly impressed by his imagination and his zeal for the genre’.

Yeah, he does look rather golden agey doesn’t he? Yeah, I agree...the Golden age was excellent. The Silver age of comics is my personal favorite. Given his golden agey'ness...our hero might be better called “The Light Shield” or have “Captain”, “Doctor” or some other title before it.
