Yeah, poor little fella. But it was the only way that Ms. Avalon could induce the Tyrannosaurus pennatus to come back (go forward?) with her to the 1800s. It's a dart that uses a mixture of pheromones, grapefruit juice and applied phlebotinum (it's science!) to "imprint" the dinosaur to a given subject.
It's all very complicated, but quite rational and plausible, I assure you.
