Description
Dot Matrix is a creation of the comedy legend Mel Brooks. She is featured in his 1987 space opera parody movie, Spaceballs. If you've not seen the movie, it is a typical Brooksian send off of the sci-fi genre film in the style of his other parodies like the classic western (Blazing Saddles), horror movies (Young Frankenstein), and the historical epic (History of the World, Part One).Spaceballs makes fun of, and borrows many character and plot conventions from, the most popular sci-fi films to date like Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, and Planet of the Apes. In the case of Dot Matrix, she is modeled after C-3PO. Her name is a reference to the old dot matrix-style printers, and the legendary stand up comic Joan Rivers voiced her character. She is Princess Vespa's droid-of-honor, dedicated to keeping Vespa safe and maintaining Vespa's virginity. Her chest contains a small message screen which blinks her "Virgin Alarm" whenever Vespa's virtue is in jeopardy.
