Description edit: the consensus seems to be, it's not cannibalism since they're 2 different species.

It always warms my heart to see well-proportioned centaur/cervitaur/___taur. Too many people make the lower body the exact same size as the real world animal and don't scale it down in proportion to the upper body.Β

Absolutely breathtaking. And you're right. There are those who feel that centaurs are equine in nature, however they are more human with throwback genes and are definitely omnivorous.

Aw hell, when i first saw it, I wondered too if it was cannibalism. (Thought on the thumbnail it was a deertaur or however they are called). Wouldn't have thought it'd make such a huge discussion xD
However, lovely piece. I like the roughness of it and the colors are great<3

Wow, I really like the painting style you used here. The looseness works with the composition and I like the soft colors. Also I always appreciate it when people draw shirtless centaurs, because I feel like that's the way they aught to be!

Love this!Β
But I always did picture centaurs to be vegetarian... assuming they had more horse guts than human guts but I never actually THOUGHT about it until this image.Β

Love the raw textureΒ

I know this is a year later, just thought to add my two cents.Β  If you think about it, most the time centaurs are pictured with bow and arrows, so they must hunt something right?Β  I never thought about it before either, but most the art I can think of, on in movies, they are like rangers.Β Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Tanager In reply to Carrianna [2018-02-03 07:22:34 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm it's true, but I never pictured them as hunters. They were warriors, so I figured the weapons were for warfare and self defense.Β

If you put a game camera on a gut pile. Β  Normally deer will get there before the Wolves, and eat it. Β  Β That's why Chronic Wasting Disease spread so fast through Wisconsin about a decade ago (being a prion disease it almost only transfers through eating). Β  Which is almost the same thing as mad cow disease, turning a brain to swiss cheese an all.

Random question;
In which breast has a centaur his heart? Human? Horse? In between?Β

My mind is doing creeepy things with me, sorry.

sandara In reply to Ciemnota [2017-03-11 02:31:32 +0000 UTC]

Should be both, I think.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Cipiteca396 In reply to Ciemnota [2017-02-10 23:17:21 +0000 UTC]

Both, or the horse body. A human heart couldn't power both alone. I doubt a horse heart could either, but it's got a better chance at it. But really, you don't want to question centaur anatomy, things get weird really fast.

sandara In reply to Katakire [2017-02-10 06:47:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, this piece is mostly about the movement.

The concept itself is not very unique or special, I think. It's a regular ol' centaur.

Just googled this. Horses aren't related to deer in much more than appearance.:

"Not only are they different species, they are different orders. Deer areΒ Artiodactyla, even toed ungulates, while horses areΒ Perissodactyla, odd-toed mammals.Β
In fact, deer are more closely related to whales and dolphins than they are to horses."

What even would the dental structure of centaurs be? Β We've got canines, which are useful for chomping on meat, but centaurs would have the same digestive systems of horses, but maybe also humans?!?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Holmes-JA In reply to HilBethJay [2017-02-07 23:23:26 +0000 UTC]

That's a good question actually. Whether a centaur is herbivorous or omnivorous. I imagine both halves have different needs, so I guess the centaur would have...hey, maybe it has multiple stomachs? Like a cow. For digesting different foods. I may have just spent five minutes pondering on the biology of mythical creatures.Β

β€œA Centaur has a man-stomach and a horse-stomach. And of course both want breakfast. So first of all he has porridge and pavenders and kidneys and bacon and omlette and cold ham and toast and marmalade and coffee and beer. And after that he tends to the horse part of himself by grazing for an hour or so and finishing up with a hot mash, some oats, and a bag of sugar. That's why it's such a serious thing to ask a Centaur to stay for the weekend. A very serious thing indeed.” -C.S. Lewis

Also I'm thinking a centaur setting about eating triggers some powerful autonomous magics as well. After all, a horses breakfast vs. a human mouth, let alone gulet!!

I don't think its any more cannibalistic than a human eating a monkey, honestly.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AnnaRDunster In reply to KristalStittle [2017-02-07 22:29:30 +0000 UTC]

Probably a lot less, they're both hoofed but I don't think they are very closely related at all. Probably no more cannibalistic than us eating deer.
