From Marvels Avengers comics comes Spectrum! For those not in the know, she is the former (second) Captain Marvel aka Monica Rambeau. I like the stark contrast of her costume and thought I'd reflect that with the simple background.Related content

I just discovered this one and thought I had been through your whole gallery.
Love the drawing, but I hope you'll do her in her original costume and hair do some day. I bought her original appearance in an Amazing Spider-Man annual off the spinner rack back in the day.

Hm...I should! I really liked her as Captain Marvel back in the 80's. I was bummed out when she was depowered and fell into obscurity.

I liked her enough that I didn't even mind that she relegated Spider-Man to being a guest star in his own book.

I dont think I ever read her first appearance. She was already an Avenger the first I was aware of her. It was cool getting to read about her in real time and seeing her go from rookie to eventually leading the team in an organic way.

Her first appearance was in an Amazing Spider-Man annual during Roger Stern's run on Spider-Man. The Avengers are in the Spider-Man story. Really, the only let down is that Monica is shown in a bikini (yea!) but she has shoes on (boo.) Her costume is also shown to have leggings that cover her feet, but you can correct that if you draw her.
Our fetish interests aside, I highly recommend Roger Stern's run on Spider-Man anyway, if you haven't read it. I hate that Stern didn't resolve the Hobgoblin mystery before he left, since it was ruined (perhaps intentionally, I've read) by Jim Owsley/Christopher Priest after Stern's departure. Stern was clicking on all cylinders during his Spider-Man tenure.

I loved the Hobgoblin as a kid! Well, I still do...all because of Sterns work on ASM back in the day. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of his identity.

Well, her costumes have stayed more or less consistent; it's been the name changes that's tough to keep up with! And I blame editorial for that

If I remember correctly, she's been Captain Marvel, Pulsar, Photon, and Spectrum. I believe that ties her with Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel, Binary, Warbird, and Captain Marvel); but Hank Pym has them both beat (Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, Doctor Pym, and the Wasp). Steve Rogers (Captain America, Nomad, The Captain) and Clint Barton (Hawkeye, Goliath, Ronin) come in just behind them at three each.

At least with the others, it was storyline driven reasons for the name/identity changes. Poor Monica Rambeau has been screwed over by editorial on several occasions! I mean, she lost her name of Captain Marvel and THEN Photon to Captain Marvel/Genis-Vel! (talk about a greedy som-a-bitch!)

She led the Avengers for a while back in the 80's. Unfortunately, she was written out at editorial decree (to re-instate Captain America as team leader) and then she spent a LONG time sort of bumming around the fringes of the Marvel Universe. I'm glad to see her back!
