Description This is the GP01 (Zephyranthes) from the Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories OVA series. This is actually my favorite Gundam pretty much ever. Basically the same as the original Gundam with a sleeker body and upgraded technology. Not much on frills and firepower.

For references on this 3d mesh I used the GFF mostly. This is easily seen in areas like the lower leg, the back of the hand, the feet and the shoulder verniers where it doesn't match the MG version at all. Also in the rear of the waist where there exists a weapons carrier (like for the GM Command). Although the original design is by Shoji Kawamori, the MG and GFF were conceptualized by Hajime Katoki. However, Katoki's influence in the concept (in the MG manual) isn't recreated faithfully in the MG kit as it is in the GFF figure and so I went with mostly the latter in the end... though the MG was a great help. Finally, the weapon being held by the GP01 at the moment is the XBR-L-83d Beam Rifle used by the GP01 in the PS2 game "Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space".

Couple of errors that I don't have time to fix as I have to go to Sendai for the weekend: There was to be a dust effect on the ground, but the CPU was actually going into it's 40th hour of rendering so I cut it off since there's a blizzard due to hit soon, the beam sabers in the back shouldn't go into the upper body the way they are above and the right leg cuff is disappearing into the ankle. Very strange....

Anyway

Software: Lightwave3D (modelling, rendering), Hexagon (some UV's), Freehand (logos), Photoshop (post).

and...

Gundam is (c) Bandai/Sunrise/Sotsu Agency

Have a good weekend!

This is absolutely amazing. The amount of effort, dedication, and attention to detail is very evident in this. The use of the GFF is effective and, once combined with your skills and native style, the end result is completely breathtaking.

The only question I have is about the cannon that the unit is holding. Was that with the GFF,because I haven't seen its' figuration yet. Also, thank you for putting in the reasons why some things looked out of place.Excellent job and thank you for sharing your work with us

Speaking of "Encounters," you mean it's actually unlockable in there? Totally gives me a reason to dust off the PS2 if it is! Care to share a "How To"?

Oh yeah, and Fav'd. I've always been a fan of Zephyranthes, too!

Amazingly done! The GP01 is my favorite as well, and I love how you did this.

However, I always thought the long beam rifle was used by the (never completed) GP-04 Gerbera?

As mentioned in the comments section, the beam rifle in the deviation is the XBR-L-83D which doesn't appear in the series, but does appear in the video games and is even then only used by the GP-01fb. The Gerbera Tetra uses a beam machine gun [link] . They are easily distinguishable by looking at the barrels in this case.

I wasn't referring to the Gerbera Tetra, I was referring to the Gundam Gerbra [link] , which is unlockable in Encounters in Space. I've never seen a rifle that long used by the Zephyranthes Full Vernian, only the BOWA XBR-M-82A [link] .

Ah, my mistake.
But still different. The GP04's rifle I did make I haven't posted -> [link]

While the gp01's blash experimental rifle above is here -> [link]

The designers seemed to start from the original beam rifle of the GP series and modify them from there. They are still somewhat distinguishable from each other.

I don't really play games, so don't have any screenshots of the gp01-fb and the blash, but [link] states that the blash xbr can be mounted optionally on the FB.

Well, since the creators of this battlesuit were aware that Zephyranthes refers to a genus of lilies that makes it OK. You did an excellent job on this comuter generated image

I like this Gundam, but for the Universal century I tend to prefer the Zeon Mobile Suits. (Sazabi is awesome! Nightingale is okay.) I utterly hate Physalis since one time I bought a small action figure of it, and it's f-ing nuclear bazooka broke where it connects to the shoulder, and I pretty much lost the rest of it, aside from its shield, later on.

Besides, it's pretty ugly anyway.

sandrum In reply to ChaosNightbringer [2008-01-22 07:41:01 +0000 UTC]

I can't comment much on your action figure folly, but as for the GP02, I rather liked it aside from the fact that the bazooka was pretty much all it had for ranged combat. Another rifle or something would have been nice.

ChaosNightbringer In reply to sandrum [2008-01-24 02:27:02 +0000 UTC]

maybe a beam cannon would've been more appropriate for the 02. It's designed to deliver a package, you'd think it would have to go through a few mobile suits to deliver the payload. Beam Cannon would be the best one-shot weapon for a suit-buster, especially with an advanced targeting system.

As to the action figures, I'm thinking about getting a 60/1 or 144/1 Model Kit, of either Wing Gundam Zero or Strike Freedom. If Strike Noir was avaliable with a optional IWSP and Sword Striker Packs, I'd probably get that.

That is SO FREAKIN' AWESOME!!! I love the detail you put into it. Have you ever thought of making a RX-78-2GP01Fb (Zephyranthes Full Vernian) with the boosters and stuff?

sandrum In reply to Owmytoast [2007-02-22 00:09:52 +0000 UTC]

I thought about it but it's on the back burner. I haven't got the time to put the extra stuff together at the moment.

Again with the late comments on my part, sorry Ivan.

You know how much of a 0083 freak I am so it's not possible that I wouldn't like this. I love the nod to Encounters with the rifle; the GP01 in that game was really tight. Are you planning at all to make AE's Full Vernian upgrade of it from the latter half?

Excellent work, as always. I'm always really impressed with the quality in your work; a standard in the genre to be sure.

Zephyranthes = Love.

Its a faithful update to the original RX-78 IMO, with the same colour schemes, including the antennae. Even the Core Block system is in place as well

What I didn't like was that it ended up in Kou's hands >_>

I like that you folded up the shield. You don't see that too often.

I'd pick up the Fix, but I'm kinda waiting for the GP03S Fix first. I just like the swept-back look of the Stamen.

Anyway, another job well done. Tell you the truth, I didn't notice the sabers till you pointed them out. Must be slipping in my old age. XP

sandrum In reply to swordoath [2007-01-05 17:53:36 +0000 UTC]

That GP03 fix looks like it'll be a strange one. But I guess you can't blame them since a full orchis would have been one hell of a hit to the old wallet
I figured I'd mention what wasn't right with the image right off the bat since not doing so means that a horde of others will point it out anyway.

swordoath In reply to sandrum [2007-01-05 23:46:49 +0000 UTC]

Not to mention huge. An Orchis at 1:144 scale would be a meter long -- where the heck would I mount that? Even with the chopped Orchis it'll still be a beast.

It'd be cool to see at the store though. I suppose this other version could be interesting. Don't think I have anyplace to put it though. Oh well.

swordoath In reply to sandrum [2007-01-07 03:15:33 +0000 UTC]

I kinda just want it for the Stamen though -- to mount with the other GP Gundams. *shrug* I guess I'll see what it looks like when there are some finished shots available.

And on that note, do you happen to know of a good stand for the older Fix figures that didn't come with one? I want to pose my GP04 ...
