Description Series: Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory

This is the GP01 Full Vernian Zephyranthes from the Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories OVA series. This machine is essentially the GP01 Zephyranthes , though with numerous improvements for use in space. The original GP01 is basically a ground unit -- in many respects basically a beefed up RX-78-2.

The model is basically a copy of the GP01 I made earlier. The head is identical, but the chassis/backpack is slightly different in order to accomodate the corefighter's upgraded space use thrusters (unfortunately they are all but impossible to see in this image except through the mirror). The shoulder armor has been replaced with protrusions that contains thrusters/verniers. The verniers can retract when not in use. The same is true with the yellow "vents" in the chest (actually verniers hidden underneath the flaps). Skirt plates have been attached and the lower legs have been redone. The feet are actually the same size but now have extension units that give it "clown feet"... I'm not really into it. The shield is the same.

The gun used by the GP01Fb is "about" the same as the GP01's. But I thought it was boring so I replaced it with a 240mm folding cannon designed by Takayuki Yanase (incidentally a mechanical designer in the upcoming Gundam 00 series) in one of his illustration books. Otherwise, the GP01fb never uses this cannon.

I should say that I rather like the GP01 over the FB version...

Software: Lightwave3D (modelling, rendering), Hexagon (some UV's), Freehand (logos), Photoshop (post).

and...

Gundam is (c) Bandai/Sunrise/Sotsu Agency

This has got to be one of my favourite suits from the Universal Century! And you did it SO well...it's amazing
Haha, I agree that the gun it should have is kind of boring. I got the action figure a looong time ago and was so annoyed that all it came with was that little gun. I much like your addition of that folding canon

And did I mention the lighting on this is amazing?

Thanks, WarBandit. I don't actually like the GP01FB version very much compared to the original. I wish it did come with a similar cannon

Haha yeah, out of the GP01 and the FB action figures I'd have to say I like the designs on the original more. The FB is neat and all, but it's added shapes and features make it...weird

Actually this one took only a few days (obviously just building on top of the GP01 model).. but I made this upgrade back in May and just never posted it. Kind of lazy back then. (still lazy really)

Niceness! I would have to agree. That folding canon does add a nice touch to the Full Vernian. Though I would think that canon would be less effective in space battle, but who knows the Full Vernian's speed might accommodate that canon quite well. Meh I think too much. Well anyhoo great work on this.

sandrum In reply to Armadais [2007-07-26 02:04:10 +0000 UTC]

The GP03 itself has folding cannons as well (created by the designer of the machine). They seem to be effective but probably just for large targets. Smaller targets seem to be able to evade with more agility. Kind of in the same vein was the reason for the one I included. Hoped it wouldn't be too out of place (thought it kind of looks it)

Armadais In reply to sandrum [2007-07-26 05:24:41 +0000 UTC]

Overall putting that canon on the GP01 was in good taste. It gave it a more unique look and unique is good. Also I'm actually a fan of canons for MS. The 180mm canon from 8th MS team was my favorite. So I guess the appeal of that canon was little biased for me. Oh well at least everyone likes it.

sandrum In reply to Armadais [2007-07-26 05:36:57 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I rather like the 180mm canon featured in 08th. Great looking weapon!

Armadais In reply to sandrum [2007-07-26 05:43:33 +0000 UTC]

Well the weapon designs from 8th were some of the best. They gave the best rugged, military feel. Even the beam rifles didn't look too scifi-ish.

you should have shown the back-packs, that's the most significant upgrade rather than the long-ass foot they added...

think...Shinning Blue Fire

not your best IMHO, don't get me wrong, it totally kicks ass, but...I've seen you work on better projects (freedom, blaze zaku, powered GM to name a few), maybe its the posing...then again...something is wrong when I look at it.

sandrum In reply to cramcomplex [2007-07-26 01:51:05 +0000 UTC]

I guess it'd be better to just say that I'm striving to get the entire GP series (00 through 04) and this is one of those steps. Didn't want the machine just sitting on my drive so I put something out. What's *wrong* with it is probably the fact that the rear boosters are indeed out of (line of) sight. It does seem out of place without them. If you think of anything else wrong with it, give a holler!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cramcomplex In reply to sandrum [2007-07-26 16:45:53 +0000 UTC]

a.) the missing booster can't be seen as far as I'm concerned, i can see the reflection on one booster and the silhouette...the other, I can't really see, only the exhaust vent as a silhouette too...

b.) the cockpit area is too thin i think, considering the lighting and the pose, that would mean extending the chest piece a bit more...

c.) lights on the upper chest in between the cockpit and the head...you know, those protruding lights...

sorry about being an ass this time, the GP-01FB is my first love, I've thrashed 3 MG's of the GP01-FB because I couldn't do it justice to it with an air-brush...

the location is also a bit off, I'm thinking moon-base, being chased by the Val-varo. *wink-wink*

thats it for this post...damn I am a real ass today wtf is wrong with me...must be the next GP01-FB i'm about to buy T__T

back to my small little wrold T__T

I'll at least ease your worries that they may not exist. This is the first test render in a post back in May. Not every angle is the best angle, but the best tend to be overused. [link]

cramcomplex In reply to sandrum [2007-07-26 23:59:41 +0000 UTC]

Yes finally an image that eases my concerns. Didn't see that back then O_O where the hell were you keeping it lol

I know what you mean, kinda wears one out with the pose over and over again...

Stage composition well, that image you did for the Neu Ziel made an impact, now that is one hell of a work, your craftsmanship can be seen there and the boosters can be tilted upward...but that'd mean more rendering on your end and more joint modifications for me on my end ~__~

But in the end, we're happy with what we did...I still have my concerns and so do you.

I'll be expecting the GP-04

*hint hint* GP04 - GerTet...Kou Uraki manages to steal it from Cima...fakes it out of the Zeon hangar and releases al lthe armor plates for the GerTet...*hint hint*

Nicely done! I remeber this to be one of my oldest fave units. When I was younger I kept obsessing about getting an action figure of it. X"D
But great work, dude! I love what you've done with it, including the folding cannon. Keep it up! ^^

looks good, you know sometimes its hard to tell if you didn't model something new or just put it into a different pose. how long does it take you to model and texture, rig and pose these things anyway?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sandrum In reply to DrakoDaFrightnin [2007-07-26 02:45:23 +0000 UTC]

As mentioned in the description: This is basically the same mesh as the original but with the changes made above, so the turnaround time is really low (probably the point of this machine). Usually it takes me 6 weeks to a month or so to do everything. Sometimes faster, sometimes not. This one just needed to have the parts mentioned removed/replaced and then just texture the new parts, so only a week or so. If it's difficult to tell what is different, this link may help. [link] The machine is literally an upgrade from the original in the story, so much of the core remains.
