Description Series: Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory

This is the GP01 Full Vernian Zephyranthes from the Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories OVA series. This machine is essentially the GP01 Zephyranthes , though with numerous improvements for use in space. The original GP01 is basically a ground unit -- in many respects basically a beefed up RX-78-2.

The model is basically a copy of the GP01 I made earlier. The head is identical, but the chassis/backpack is slightly different in order to accomodate the corefighter's upgraded space use thrusters (unfortunately they are all but impossible to see in this image except through the mirror). The shoulder armor has been replaced with protrusions that contains thrusters/verniers. The verniers can retract when not in use. The same is true with the yellow "vents" in the chest (actually verniers hidden underneath the flaps). Skirt plates have been attached and the lower legs have been redone. The feet are actually the same size but now have extension units that give it "clown feet"... I'm not really into it. The shield is the same.

The gun used by the GP01Fb is "about" the same as the GP01's. But I thought it was boring so I replaced it with a 240mm folding cannon designed by Takayuki Yanase (incidentally a mechanical designer in the upcoming Gundam 00 series) in one of his illustration books. Otherwise, the GP01fb never uses this cannon.

I should say that I rather like the GP01 over the FB version...

Software: Lightwave3D (modelling, rendering), Hexagon (some UV's), Freehand (logos), Photoshop (post).

and...

Gundam is (c) Bandai/Sunrise/Sotsu Agency

Yeah, the GP03 was the best of the bunch(given it could take on an entire armada it seemed, all without newtype powers giving the pilot an edge). Considering it carried it's own Armory with while in battle, and had beam sabers that could cleave ships in two in one swipe, whats not to love about that. No precision(well not too much), no uber pilot(though he was pretty good), and well it showed that an EF built "mobile armor" would really kick ass.

uraki was pretty creative XD that's what i loved 'bout him...well XD he blocked gatos beam saber with full burner's feet... he's just too awesome XD
thought... that I-field sure was a painful thing

That I-field thing, was that on the Moon's surface? That was a Plasma Leader thing, only more advanced than the one Amuro encountered.

Kima1835 In reply to AlphaRaptor2k6 [2007-07-27 12:31:58 +0000 UTC]

hmm... i'm not so sure about that... i guess that the I-field is only the equipement of the unit itself... for that you also saw that gato's neueziel also had an I-field and since back then the moon was on the federation's side, and for that i wouldn't understand how gato's MA could have used the same thing as the GP03 did

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AlphaRaptor2k6 In reply to Kima1835 [2007-07-27 18:22:31 +0000 UTC]

The Painful zap Kou got was on the moon against a rebuilt mobile armor, piloted by a one armed man(a wounded Zeon soldier hiding on the moon as a junk dealer) he had previously befriended and helped to repair/alter the Mobile armor to be controlled by someone with only one arm. Thats the "Plasma Leader" thing I was talking about. Nina Save Kou that time, by cashing her moon buggy thing into one of the leader bits to break the circle of sorts. The Fb didn't have any sort of I-field, your thinking of the Dendrobium Orchis MA which went with the Stamen MS. That MA unit had an I-field generator externally mounted on it.

No Nina wasn't killed, she survived the whole ordeal.

Nina if you don't remember was the chief AE tech assigned to both the GP01,and 2. Anyways she was in charge of who got to pilot the units and was the debug tech on site to work out any kinks and record the data. She was reunited with Kou after he got out after they deleted the whole Gundam affair from the records(the big wigs at EF/Titans did it so cover up all the wrong doings they had done).

AlphaRaptor2k6 In reply to AlphaRaptor2k6 [2007-07-27 18:52:19 +0000 UTC]

The difference Is maybe that AE didn't have all that much exp in making I-field generators and cooling them. They had Zeon engineers but they must have not had the RIGHT engineers and or equipment captured or on hand to make an internal generator. Kinda like in WWII when we got the Scientists and a few V2's but the Soviets already had a rocket scientist(fresh from a Prison) of their own(to say what was good to take and what it was they were taking) and they had a few German ones as well, plus whatever they scrounged up too. Plus, we didn't really spend that much on the tech development after the war. The same could be said of AE and the EF. Axis was pretty much a melting pot of former pilots, engineers, and scientists who fled the aftermath of the war. They had a pretty safe and unrestricted/unhindered place to work. All without political pressure, political/personal alterations to projects, so they could really turn out better suits(though fewer at times). We see that in Zeta, this OVA(0083) being a setup for ZETA.

Yeah, maybe or they were put on some long range patrol to keep them "out of the loop", don't know for sure. The captain was or was going to be executed for stealing the GP03, but given the whole affair being removed from official records it may have been stayed or commuted to life imprisonment, or maybe he was freed. But given all he knew and what he had done he maybe have been free, but kicked out of the service(dishonorable discharge) with a lengthy house arrest thrown in to he didn't talk about anything.
Though killing him and saying he was "killed in action" or died of a disease, or even assassinated by a Zeon spy could have been a good cover up for his "death". They really never said anything more than he was "executed".

Well given the "Clown Shoes" they gave the Fb, they're all armor it would seem, so density helps there. Possibly they were added to balance out the suit given the bigger backpack, or to help land it better(very unlikely)? Kou was creative I give you that, he had to be because he didn't have newtype powers to make him a killing machine(without those Amuro would have just been a whinnier kid than he was).

An excelent choice, one of the most favorite Gundams by all. Nice touch with the 240mm cannon, it just screams "F--- with me and your dead". Is that a colony mirror or the Solar Flare System behind the GP-01 FB?

I could have sworn it uses a longer rifle in the Val Varo fight in the anime, but it's been a while. Regardless, this thing is just pure robot sexy, well done!

sandrum In reply to GlauG [2007-07-26 02:30:36 +0000 UTC]

It is a slightly different rifle than the original, but they look too similar for me even then so I ditched it for this. Thanks again, Mike!

AlphaRaptor2k6 In reply to GlauG [2007-07-26 00:14:55 +0000 UTC]

maybe it was a prototype/add-on for space use. Though in space the beam shot would have less affecting it, so a concentrator wouldn't be needed. Or was it a some kind of flash suppressor? Who knows.

GlauG In reply to AlphaRaptor2k6 [2007-07-26 08:53:02 +0000 UTC]

Off the top of my head, its main difference is the huge long barrel, with what looks like a RIS rail attachment. I've actually got an aftermarket MG scale model of one, and I've seen other people's models of it too. Maybe big barrels look more intimidating, and the FB can get away with it for space use? >_>;

(BTW, are you planning on eventually making images/models of some of the Gundam 00 mobile suits? Some of the designs actually look quite interesting; I like the look of the new gundams, kind of Turn A-ish in some respects :3)
