Welcome to dA 'mote Machine, a Flash application that I created so than ANYONE can make their own emoticon!

You CAN upload your creation to your own gallery!
You CAN derive new works from your creation here!
It is APPRECIATED if you link back to this deviation when uploading your creation!

You CANNOT use your creation as an original character (OC).
Why?
Well, after thinking about this and hearing from people what they thought about this, I have decided that you cannot claim the creations here as an OC, which means "original character." The reason is very justly that other OCs may already exist with similar styles, and if you claim this as an OC, it's not really original. This edit was made on 2/12/12, so anything made after this date is a violation of the rule. Anything made before is okay. Thank you for understanding!

Why dA 'mote machine?
My theory is that anyone should be given the resources to create and customize their own emoticon! With this application, you are given the tools to create your own emoticon! After you create your emote, I highly encourage you to develop it on your own! This Flash application does not give you free control over all of the emote's features, which is why it is important for you to develop the emote on your own! The point is not to make it simple to make emotes, the point is to give newcomers the resources they need to get started emoting, or to give experienced emoticonists a fun experience!

After you create your emote, why don't you look at #Emotication for more resources?

What do you do?
Very simply, just click through the navigation to select the parts from your emoticon. If you click on the QUESTION MARK icon you will find help, and if you click on the SPEECH BUBBLE icon you will find more information about this application.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

NOTICE!!
If you change the filename from myEmote on a Windows PC, please add a .png after your new name! For example, the default name is myEmote, change it to newName.png.

ARE YOU AN EMOTICONIST?
This is also an emoticon community project! I am looking for new accessories, expressions, poses, and mouths! If you are interested in contributing to this interactive application (and being given credit), please note me. Please do not make anything for this project until we communicate because your piece needs to do the following:
Use the same hex colors as the rest of the emoticons;
Be made for all 8 colored bases. In other words, if you make one accessory, it needs to be made in 8 colors.
I look forward to your contributions! Let's make the transition for non-emoticonists into learned ones fun and smooth!

Fun Facts:
By my calculation, there are 272 possible combinations of pieces possible in this application. This is not including the possible combinations with the panning tool.

I roughly estimate that there are over 800 lines of code involved in this project.

The help and more info scenes are actually images, not pages.

This took me the entire month of January to complete. For the first two weeks I literally worked on it every day.

I hand-colored and created every sprite you see in it now.

All code here is written from scratch.

The downloading function took me longer than most of the other scenes. o-O

I am excited.
