Description This is a post-World War 2 tank scale chart, circa 1950 - Present Day. Enjoy! ^_^

The scale on this chart is compatible to my World War 2 tank size chart, so you can cross reference between the two if you feel so inclined. ^_^

-----

=Version 1-2 (????)=
The original files has long been lost to me, so I have no real documentation on this. It happened somehow, once upon a time. XD

=Version 3 (2008)=
Fixed the M1A1 Abrams stats, and redid some other tanks. Added more tanks and stuff~

- M998 Humvee
- BMD-1 Airborne IFV
- Type 63 APC
- BMP-3 IFV
- Marder 1A3
- PT-76 Amphibious Tank
- M551 Sheridan
- Stridsvagn 103C
- T-62 MBT
- FV 4201 Chieftain
- M60A3 Patton
- C1 Ariete
- AMX-56 LeClerc
- M1A1 Abrams (Redone)
- T-90 Vladimir
- T-72 Ural (Redone)
- T-80U MBT

Doubled the amount of tanks there were previously. Also redid the layout and added nation flags. Enjoy! XD

=Version 3.5 (2013)=
A very long overdue fix of the scale bar. Just a quick fix really, just so I could get that off my mind.

I may update this sometime, since I've got almost 30 additional tanks and armoured vehicles scaled and prepared for the next version. We'll see when I get around sorting that out. ^_^

VERY NICE!!! I do think that this could be one of the most complete charts of mechanized war machines that my eyes have ever seen. Marvelous!!!

Thanks a bunch!

I try my best, so I guess it may be. I am adding more tanks to this chart, so suggestions are very much open if you have any~ ^_^

Chinese tanks are just Russian tanks with Chinese stickers stuck on D:

Hahaha, pretty much. Till they start figuring out how to make more indigenous designs, that is~ ^_^

The boasted performance of the new chinese tanks are quite impressive compared to the tanks they're based on, but only time will tell if all those claims are true~ Cheers!

the Tiger 2/ King Tiger/ KΓΆnigstiger is a tank from the days of World War 2, so I have one there~

The King Tiger's a monster, but not quite enough of a monster to fight some of today's crazy arse tanks~ ^_^

Hmm maybe I'm thinking of something else. I remember a while ago seeing a pretty sick youtube video saying that this german tank was pretty much the shit. I really thought they were talking about the tiger II but I don't know. Maybe the newer leopard? It was a slightly old video because they said it was like the most technologicly advanced and I was like uh what? Abrams? lol

Anyway I'm pretty German in heritage so I kind of got to root for the home team lol. Try to get it away from the stereotype of Germans.

Heheh, hear hear! ^_^

You're probably thinking of the Leopard 2, which is up there somewheres~

And I personally think the Leopard 2 is one of the best tanks currently, but it is pretty close though. There are many awesome tanks out there~ ^_^ Go Deutschland!

Neat work, but the scale-bar is way off. Ditto with the WW2 one. Your one-meter bar is perhaps twice as large as it should be.

Ah, you've included the T-80 MBT, a personal favorite of mine (no surprise there).

This is a really informative reference chart. You really realize how gigantic the turret on the American Abrams is (absolutely huge!).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sanity-X In reply to MarkSYNTHESIS [2008-12-06 05:28:10 +0000 UTC]

Heheh, it's a personal favourite of mine too! Especially the T-80U with it's crab shell ERA arrangement~ ^_^

Glad you found it informative, and I agree on the Abrams turret. Do remember how the Americans love crew comfort in their tanks plus their ammunition stored in the bustle is what makes that turret much larger than most other tank turrets. Especially to its contemporary rival, the T-80/90, who have rather cramp interiors and store their auto-loader ammunition in carousels under the turret.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MarkSYNTHESIS In reply to Sanity-X [2008-12-11 04:38:34 +0000 UTC]

I'm absolutely certain that the American Abrams is superior to the T-80 in terms of crew comfort--though I'm guessing some freakishly tall recruits are still cramped in there.

That being said, I think the T-80's a match--it's the prototypical "small tank with a giant gun". It's a step up from the T-72's interior, and while it's probably still cramped....a smaller target profile has to have it's advantages, right? Add it's reputation as the "flying" tank, and it's diesel engine...

Well, let's just say, I'd hate to have to be part of the M1's crew when the engine ran out of petrol.

Then again, I'm one of those person who drives a sedan, not a Hummer, lol!

mikkow In reply to MarkSYNTHESIS [2009-02-05 19:34:36 +0000 UTC]

The T80 has a gas turbine engine, just like the Abrams. Both of them are known to eat enormous amounts of fuel, which is one of thereasons now the russians are abandoning gas turbine powered tank designs.

But it's true that the T80 is called a flying tank due to the awesome power to weight ratio.

The Abrams gas turbine engine can run on most combustable fuels, including diesel, jet fuel, gasoline etc. Surprised me when I learned about it. I don't know the story with the T80 regarding that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MarkSYNTHESIS In reply to mikkow [2009-02-06 18:47:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm actually thinking of the T-80UD, which has a diesel engine. Before the end of the 1980s, I know at least one (more likely several) variants of the T-80 had diesel engines--but you are correct, it is the first tank to have a gas turbine engine (perhaps where the idea for the Abram's engine came along).

I think the M1A2 can use diesel, at some costs (and benefits), but apparently, they do not (a purposeful decision). T-80s have actually been designed with a dedicated diesel engine (though I suppose it can't use regular gasoline fuel). And the T-80's smaller size, along with the Soviet/Russian practice of using very large engines compared to the overall vehicle size (the modern BMP-2 and Bradley share very similar power engines--the BMP-2 is less than half the weight, however) would suggest it has an upper hand in terms of fuel efficiency.

Of course, that's like saying, "My car is more fuel-efficient than an H2 Hummer." It's not a big accomplishment really...

I think an M1 also has a 1,500 HP engine, while a T-80 has a 1,000 HP or 1,200 HP engine, depending on the model, but it's two-thirds the weight. Size does matter, heh.

T-64BM-1
Merkava IV
AMX-30B2
Centurion Mk.13
Stingray Light Tank
Leopard 1A5
to name a few... but it is up to you on witch one to add.
