Description
I was doing some research for my Cartoon Character Design class (I'm cartoonifying tanks! XD) and I needed some way to see the differences in size between the different types of tanks. Thing is, I couldn't find any online!! (Either that, or I'm really not that good at net sourcing lol)Anyway, here's what I've managed to put together with the resources from www.the-blueprints.com and www.wwiivehicles.com . I think this should be preeetty accurate... If anyone notices anything ackward do
tell me lol~
Well, heres hoping this helps you as much as it helped me~
The scale on this chart is compatible to my Modern tank size chart, so you can cross reference between the two if you feel so inclined. ^_^
Modern Tank Comparison Chart - sanity-x.deviantart.com/art/Moβ¦
-----
=Version 1 (2006)=
Original chart created for Treadhead project, due to the lack of similar charts online at the time. sanity-x.deviantart.com/art/Thβ¦
- Klimenti Voroshilov-2
- M4 Sherman
- PzKpfw VI Ausf E Tiger
- Cruiser Mk VI, Crusader II
- Type 97 Chi-Ha
-Carro Armato M13/40
=Version 2 (2006)=
Continuation of my curiosity with World War 2 tanks, spurred on by my introduction to Flames of War.
- Infantry Mk III, Valentine Mk I
- Semovente 90/53
- T-34/76B, obr 1941
- BT-7, obr 1936
- PzKpfw IV Ausf E
- Klimenti Voroshilov-1
- Renault R-35
- PzKpfw VI Ausf B Konigstiger
=Version 3 (2006)=
Spurred on by my own interests, along with the overwhelming interests of like-minded netizens, expanded the chart further. Added a sports car and 2 modern tanks, to give us an idea of how large tanks are in comparison with contemporary machines we may be familiar with.
Also added nation tags, to aid in the recognition of these vehicles origins.
- Nissan Skyline BNR-34
- Ford GP
- BA-64
- T-60 obr 1942
- Panzer II Ausf C
- T-26 obr 1939
- T-70 obr 1943
- M3 Stuart I
- M3 Grant
- Char B1 bis
- M26 Pershing
- Iosef Stalin-2
- Iosef Stalin-3
- Char 2C
- Infantry MKIV, Churchill VII
- T-35
- PzKpfw Maus
- M1A1 Abrams
- T-72
=Version 4 (2008)=
Added a few extra tanks, thanks to some feedback. Removed the modern tanks, because of the creation of the modern tank comparison charts.
- Fiat L6/40
- Type 95 Kyu-Go
- Somua S-35
- Panzer III Ausf. G
- Cromwell Mk. IV
- Panzer V Ausf. G, Panther
- Karl Gerat
Also added the weight of all tanks for a better picture of the mass of some of these things. (70 ton King Tiger?! O_o?!)
=Version 4.5 (2013)=
A very long overdue fix of the scale bar. Just a quick fix really, just so I could get that off my mind.
I have lost the original files for this chart, so if I update it it will probably have a new layout very much like the Modern Tank Scale chart.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't your scale out a bit with the metre "stick" ? I have been up close in real life to many of these vehicles and I know that many of them are taller than what your scale would suggest... Just pointing that out, hope you don't mind...
Sorry if someone has already pointed that out, I didn't read all the comments
by the way, this is still REALLY cool!

Sanity, just try Googling for "tank size comparison". Both of your works are at the very top of the search results.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, SERIOUSLY amazing work on these! (Though you really got to fix that scale bar)
Did you showcase these as part of your academic portfolio?
π: 0 β©: 1
Sanity-X In reply to DilaZirK [2011-04-09 19:18:03 +0000 UTC]
Haha, I know right! Who knew~ ^_^
Thanks for the praise man, Dilz~ As to the showcase though, I think this doesn't really represent my creative abilities, rather my obsession for technical scale comparisons, so I didn't put this up. ^_^
ps: And yes, I've really got to fix that scale bar...

Yes, this work is probably more technical than artistic in nature, but MAN a fine piece of technical work this is.

The tiger wasn't tough cause it was big, it was tough cause it's armor was frickin thick as hell. Also, I really hope they add the Karl gun as a German SPG to World of Tanks.

That would be... friggin' unfair! XD
π: 0 β©: 1
Acorn83 In reply to Sanity-X [2011-03-20 07:58:37 +0000 UTC]
Unfair in the best possible way. Besides, making an SPG that can one-shot a Maus wont be all that different from the way it is now since they already do so much damage, they could just make the firing time extremely slow to balance it out.
π: 0 β©: 1
Sanity-X In reply to Acorn83 [2011-03-20 20:34:16 +0000 UTC]
One shotting the Maus is one thing, but since this used to level city blocks...
One has to imagine the explosive force of it's shell will one shot anything in a pretty huge radius. O_O!

Yeah... I can it now where you're shooting at a Heavy that's giving your guys some trouble and you kill the heavy and all of your guys too.

I'm that obvious, eh? ^_^
I try to dabble in 1/35 models, but am still a little daunted at the scale of them (especially since I don't have an airbrush to get them done quickly)
Currently pouring my love into 1/100 and 1/72 scale tanks~ ^_^

E350tb In reply to ??? [2011-01-26 15:15:38 +0000 UTC]
Nice. It's quite striking how small the Cromwell actually is, compared to the Sherman and Panther, I mean.
Also, Char 2C. Did any of those actually see service?
π: 0 β©: 1
Sanity-X In reply to E350tb [2011-01-27 03:12:29 +0000 UTC]
Thanks~ ^_^
The Cromwell is pretty low compared to those tanks, yeah. Probably because the Sherman is pretty tall and the Panther is almost a heavy tank. Then again, good things come in small packages, no?
The Char 2C was the heaviest tank the French had when the war started, but it was mostly obsolete at the time. They used it mostly for propaganda to encourage their populous and discourage their foes, but they mostly kept it out of combat.
They destroyed most of them before the Germans defeated them, to keep them from being trophies the Germans could parade around. The Germans still got a few though, and Hitler was happy~ ^_^
π: 0 β©: 1
E350tb In reply to Sanity-X [2011-01-27 03:43:47 +0000 UTC]
So they basically used it as a propaganda stunt, then? That was probably for the best, in the long run.
I must say, my personal favourite WWII tank is the Panther. There's just something about it...
π: 0 β©: 1
Sanity-X In reply to E350tb [2011-02-28 08:25:14 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the Char 2C was outdated by the time their time came, so I don't really blame the french for not using them.
Panthers are sexy beasts, no matter how you slice it~ ^_^

HQOFIQ In reply to ??? [2011-01-20 08:52:23 +0000 UTC]
Well, at first, let me say, that this chart is very awesome and I really enjoy the comparison ...
BUT ... check out the Human standing next to the KV2 and the metre measurement left of the person. If the relations are correct, the human would only be a little higher than 1 metre?!
I think the proportions from the Human and the vehicles are ok (i.e. compared to the car top left) but the measure unit is incorrect - 1 metre must be smaller in this chart ...
Best regards

LOL nice picture but I'm sorry to say this picture shows the wrong scales. The Maus is actually 3,6 meters high/tall whereas KV-1 is only 2,7 m high but in the picture it is almost the same size of the Maus, unrealistic. The KV-1 is generelly too large in this picture, the chassis is way too large too. In this picture the chassis of the KV-1 is even LARGER than of the Tiger tank LOl, nono that's wrong.
see here for correct scale

Ok, will double check that when I have the time. Thanks for the feedback.
ps: I hope the scale bar isn't disturbing your judgment. It is highly inaccurate atm, sorry bout that.

Looking, looking... aww crap. No 7TP or TKS tankette
We had better tanks than Germany in 1939, but we had only 139 7TPs (in total 880) tanks, and the commanders couldn't use them properly...

OK
7TP won't be very different from T-26, just different turret and engine compartment's cover.
