Description
I was doing some research for my Cartoon Character Design class (I'm cartoonifying tanks! XD) and I needed some way to see the differences in size between the different types of tanks. Thing is, I couldn't find any online!! (Either that, or I'm really not that good at net sourcing lol)Anyway, here's what I've managed to put together with the resources from www.the-blueprints.com and www.wwiivehicles.com . I think this should be preeetty accurate... If anyone notices anything ackward do
tell me lol~
Well, heres hoping this helps you as much as it helped me~
The scale on this chart is compatible to my Modern tank size chart, so you can cross reference between the two if you feel so inclined. ^_^
Modern Tank Comparison Chart - sanity-x.deviantart.com/art/Moβ¦
-----
=Version 1 (2006)=
Original chart created for Treadhead project, due to the lack of similar charts online at the time. sanity-x.deviantart.com/art/Thβ¦
- Klimenti Voroshilov-2
- M4 Sherman
- PzKpfw VI Ausf E Tiger
- Cruiser Mk VI, Crusader II
- Type 97 Chi-Ha
-Carro Armato M13/40
=Version 2 (2006)=
Continuation of my curiosity with World War 2 tanks, spurred on by my introduction to Flames of War.
- Infantry Mk III, Valentine Mk I
- Semovente 90/53
- T-34/76B, obr 1941
- BT-7, obr 1936
- PzKpfw IV Ausf E
- Klimenti Voroshilov-1
- Renault R-35
- PzKpfw VI Ausf B Konigstiger
=Version 3 (2006)=
Spurred on by my own interests, along with the overwhelming interests of like-minded netizens, expanded the chart further. Added a sports car and 2 modern tanks, to give us an idea of how large tanks are in comparison with contemporary machines we may be familiar with.
Also added nation tags, to aid in the recognition of these vehicles origins.
- Nissan Skyline BNR-34
- Ford GP
- BA-64
- T-60 obr 1942
- Panzer II Ausf C
- T-26 obr 1939
- T-70 obr 1943
- M3 Stuart I
- M3 Grant
- Char B1 bis
- M26 Pershing
- Iosef Stalin-2
- Iosef Stalin-3
- Char 2C
- Infantry MKIV, Churchill VII
- T-35
- PzKpfw Maus
- M1A1 Abrams
- T-72
=Version 4 (2008)=
Added a few extra tanks, thanks to some feedback. Removed the modern tanks, because of the creation of the modern tank comparison charts.
- Fiat L6/40
- Type 95 Kyu-Go
- Somua S-35
- Panzer III Ausf. G
- Cromwell Mk. IV
- Panzer V Ausf. G, Panther
- Karl Gerat
Also added the weight of all tanks for a better picture of the mass of some of these things. (70 ton King Tiger?! O_o?!)
=Version 4.5 (2013)=
A very long overdue fix of the scale bar. Just a quick fix really, just so I could get that off my mind.
I have lost the original files for this chart, so if I update it it will probably have a new layout very much like the Modern Tank Scale chart.

Thanks a lot! ^^ I try hard..xD
You should try looking up a game called "Codename: Panzers Phase 2" , on their official site, they have an encyclopedia of WW2 tanks and planes in the game, and wonderful big pictures of them in glorious color and detail! *O*!!

Hahah, so it's not~ Who knew? XD
Nah, I put it there for people to relate some of the more recognisable modern armour to the ancient relics of the Second World War~ Kinda like bridging the gap into the past hahaahah~
Oh, and do try to read the art descriptions next time, eh? ^_^

My goodness, the Maus is HUGE! I wonder which will win if the King Tiger fought against the M1 Abrams?

Sanity-X In reply to AMnezcorpEAST [2007-07-29 13:59:30 +0000 UTC]
Lol, I think the Abrams would most definitely win because of obvious technological advantages. I think the Leopard would make for a much fairer fight~
And yes, the Maus is freaking Huge! XD

More cannons in tanks? I think that's an idea of the past sadly, as cool as it sounds~ Perhaps we should wait for walking metal behemoths for those? (AKA Battletech, Gundam, etc?)

I play a tabletop WWII strategy game (like Warhammer, except during WWII) called flames of war, and even though I know the sizes in comparison because a lot of the tanks are at my fingertips, it's handy to know the size in comparison to me!
Thanks for making this chart.

Fancy that, so do I!! XD
I play a Mid-War 1942 Soviet Mixed Tankovy Batalon~ Is your's a Mid or Late War American force?
ps: Your welcome for the chart, and thanks for the comment ^_^ Do you by any chance play Warhammer too?

WarpFactor In reply to Sanity-X [2007-03-08 14:37:48 +0000 UTC]
I have a midwar American force, and the beginnings of German and Strevolky forces, too. A couple T-34s, a platoon of Meatshe- I mean glorious soldiers of the Red Army, a KV-1e, and for the Germans, 3 Tigers, two Panzer IVs, 3 StuGs, and a panther. For my Americans, I have 5 M5 Stuarts, 4 Shermans, 3 M10s, 2 Grants, 2 Quad .50 AA halftracks, 2 75mm halftracks, 4 Priests, a platoon of Riflemen, two 57mm guns, 3 jeeps, and two light dodge trucks to tow the guns.
About 300 bucks of stuff right there, give or take a little.....
I don't own a Warhammer army though, FoW is expensive enough by itself!

WarpFactor In reply to WarpFactor [2007-03-08 14:40:41 +0000 UTC]
Oh, and I have 4 unassembled 105mm Howitzers, an unassembled platoon of greatcoat Strevolkies, and an unassambled .30 cal LMG platoon and plan to get some Firefly VCs, along with some Pershings, as soon as Battlefront finally releases the freaking Latewar rules. Those things rock.

Sanity-X In reply to WarpFactor [2007-03-08 16:53:21 +0000 UTC]
Wow, that's quite a bit~ Mine's only about 1000pts strong, with 3 KV-1Es, a KV-2, 5 T-34s and one very lost T-70 (which i'm hoping to complete a whole unit of 7 of them)
And aren't the Late War rules written in Festung Europa and D-Day? Along with the current rulebook?
π: 0 β©: 1
WarpFactor In reply to Sanity-X [2007-03-09 15:58:10 +0000 UTC]
Not really. Latewar is more November '44 to the end from what I've gathered. They are going to re-release the Pershing and Tiger II rules, and a bunch more stuff.
π: 0 β©: 2
WarpFactor In reply to WarpFactor [2007-03-11 17:55:34 +0000 UTC]
Yep. But Using the old LW rules, I was the first person to take out a Tiger II in my gaming club!
Thank god for the M10.

O rly? Fascinating~
I haven't dabbled in FOWs Late War rules yet, mostly because I'm still messing around with my Warhammer Fantasy army this past few months~
The King Tiger is going to be a mean opponent to face, lol.

LOL! Thanks for the fave! Not sure if i deserve it though, not like I drew all them tanks and all, it's just a reference piece put together from schematics and resizing based on their dimensions~ -^_^-
Btw, I've already made an expanded version just because I liked doing it lol! Any WW2 era tanks in particular that you want in there to compare with the others?
π: 0 β©: 1
Orao-1 In reply to Sanity-X [2006-11-24 18:53:15 +0000 UTC]
hmm. Pershing and IS-2 and IS-3. Those were some damn good tanks wich could take Tigers and Panthers on equal terms.

What KΓΆnigs-Tiger lacked in size, he made up in quality and angle of armor and the main weapon, dreaded Flak 88 (acctually, a modification of it so it can fit into a tank turret). but its drawback was a (very) faulty engine. More tanks vere lost because of engine malfunctions than to enemy fire. Hehe. great picture.
π: 0 β©: 1
Sanity-X In reply to Orao-1 [2006-11-15 15:02:11 +0000 UTC]
Hahah, true. The stories of the dreaded (or venerable, depends on how you look at it lol) King Tiger is hard to miss lol.
Btw, you do know the King Tiger's engine wasn't exactly faulty, but it was underpowered for it's weight class? Apparently it used the same engine as the Panther tanks, with an additional 24 tonnes to drag along~ >_<
π: 0 β©: 1
Orao-1 In reply to Sanity-X [2006-11-15 15:28:43 +0000 UTC]
That was the major problem of KingTiger. If it had a better engine, I believe it would surpass the Tiger (PzKW VI Tiger) and Panther tanks. The Nazis were loosign war and they had dwindled on supplies (Battle of Bulge was acctually a operation for stealing Anglo-American fuel and ammo supplies, along with other objectives). Also did you know that alter models of PzKW IV had instead of four return rollers, three. So I believe that shows how much Nazis had problems with supplies.

Hahah, very true~ The germans weren't doing too well after 1943. This sounds kinda weird, but it's kinda sad they lost the war so miserably, surrounded on all sides by it's enemies and cut to ribbons like that. It would've been interesting to see how the german 'superweapons' would've fared in a good and proper fight~
A fair one at least hahaha! XD

Orao-1 In reply to Sanity-X [2006-11-16 20:22:14 +0000 UTC]
Yup, and it wass due to the creating Russian front. That was their major mistake. Idft they left ter russians alone, I belive Nazis would already conquer Britain one way or another. Sorry to all British people outhere.
