Neither at this point in time, but they get separated. Verity lives until Ari and his brother and sister has grown up, then dies of natural causes. Roscoe is still alive... elsewhere.

Roscoe and Verity never even managed to get married, unfortunately :/ He was returning home to get his family's permission when he disappeared.

Unfortunately, not. He's going home to get permission from his family to marry her... but he never returns.

They disapproved yes, but he went against their decision, turned his back on his family, and began his return to Verity. Unfortunately he was attacked by thieves and left for dead; when he regained consciousness he realised he had been blinded.
Some friendly strangers took him in and helped him with his recovery, which took a long time, but he was unable to travel for very long distances, and so he was never able to find Verity again. Because of this, she always believed he had died.

It's beautifully depressing... Well, actually... Depressingly beautiful? 'Cause there's nothin' particularly beautiful about being depressed. But the picture itself is quite wonderful. And the moment very heartwarming.
