Quickness is not the problem here. Headshaking might be this fast. But I suggest to give the eyes some fix spots to look at. They can change during the animation but eyes always fix a spot - somewhere.
Go on! Way cool!

thanks.. yeah, i think you right.. ill try the fix position on the eyes in the next one.. doing a full rigged face then too

You have a tendency to make your animations too quick. It was the same with "Sensual Moves". Saph moves too rapidly, and it's not realistic. Otherwise it is very well done.

i actually think the realism is pretty nice here.. the speed is very possible.. just try to move you head around like this.. the problem is its a pretty short animation so that makes it very repetitive.. but i think if you would only look at the loop once you wont say it was to fast.. thank you for the feedback tho

The expressions are good, but the headshaking seems a little off to me. Still good, though, just need some teeny, tiny adjustments.

She looks a little sad though. I wonder why... and I just wanna comfort her. Tell her it'll be alright. Timmy isn't stuck in the well again...

well its ust a test.. its still only half of the face, so i think it will look better once the whole face is rigged

I have to agree with some of the comments. It's moving a bit too fast and erratic, hard to see and determine the expressions because of it. I do like that you added blinking in it, makes it feel a lot more natural. I also like the mild movement of the head. it has a feeling of her watching traffic or people going by. Or that she is reading all the comments people are making here hehehe.

SaphireNishi In reply to EvilKingGumby [2013-04-06 16:00:27 +0000 UTC]

thanks a lot.. i dont really think speed is the problem here.. its very possible to move your head around like this, altho i agree i does make it hard to see the expressions clearly.. the other problem is just half of th face that is giving the expression now, so i think it will look a lot better when the full face is rigged too.. working on that now as we speak

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EvilKingGumby In reply to SaphireNishi [2013-04-06 20:28:23 +0000 UTC]

oh absolutely, the speed was more an issue of trying to determine if the animations were natural or not. Slowing it down (which you did in the new piece) helps with that a lot.

it's hard to believe you are already working on rigging and animation when not long ago you were just starting the 360 rotation clips. So kool.

But on a serious note. Wow. That must be one annoying fly buzzing around her head.
Okay, this time I'm being serious. Good work with the brows and eyes. Look forward to seeing this kind of animation with her tits- DAMN IT! I tried to be serious. Honest.

Very very nice. I'd suggest slowing it down just a little bit. It might smooth out some of the jerking in the movements.
Aside from that, I love it. The eyebrows are particularly expressive.

SaphireNishi In reply to d3r-p4nz3r [2013-04-06 15:56:27 +0000 UTC]

well just like others said too.. i dont think speed is the problem here.. even when slowing it down we would still have that jerk effect and i do think its very possible to move you head around like this.. but thank you for the feedback

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

berserkgem In reply to ??? [2013-04-06 03:01:14 +0000 UTC]

pretty good, though you could be a little more expressive

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaphireNishi In reply to berserkgem [2013-04-06 15:54:18 +0000 UTC]

thanks.. well expressiveness actually mostly comes from the mouth.. it has to do with how many big muscles are moving around when making an expression.. and the mouth has the most of them.. so there is only so much you can do with only the eyes and brows.. im doing the mouth and nose now to..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

berserkgem In reply to SaphireNishi [2013-04-06 23:41:02 +0000 UTC]

well i wasn't saying it was bad, just that you could have exaggerated some things a little more

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaphireNishi In reply to berserkgem [2013-04-06 23:58:22 +0000 UTC]

but how would that be done then, babes ? i mean raising the eye brows any higher will look weird.. and closing the eyes more is not really possible either ? so how do we exaggerate it even more ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

berserkgem In reply to SaphireNishi [2013-04-07 03:41:13 +0000 UTC]

watch some anime or disney cartoons and you'll see what i mean. anime in particular is good to watch to know how to really exaggerate expressions (yet keep them recognisable)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaphireNishi In reply to berserkgem [2013-04-07 16:43:56 +0000 UTC]

well cartoon and especially anime have a complete different way of using expressions then for real life expressions.. for example.. if you want a anime character the look surprised then oval eyes stretched out over the length is the way to go.. but that wont work when going for realism.. that will look kinda weird if we do that.. the thing i could add is things like a lower lid on the eye that i can raise slightly so that i can make her squint.. i could add some wrinkles around the eyes as well which add some realism.. same with the eye brows.. i can only move the inner part and the complete brow now.. but i cold add an extra movement on the out parts of the eye brows too.. but its not really going to make the face more expressive.. i just have more details to move around then.. going cartoon style with saphy is not really want i want to do..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

berserkgem In reply to SaphireNishi [2013-04-08 02:06:44 +0000 UTC]

trust me sweetie, going for realism is a lot harder then it may seem (i would know), i think it would be best if you gave her a bit of an exaggerated cartoon look, maybe not as extreme as anime, but leaning more towards game characters (like elizabeth from bioshock or cortana from halo).

the hard thing about realism is just that, it's hard to make something that isn't real look real, without things like motion capture or very high end rigging, and even then they don't look 100% real... after all, what is 'real', how does something look 'real' when we all act, move and behave differently to one another ?

that's why i don't like symmetrical modelling in 3d, b/c no one looks identical on both sides of their face/body...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaphireNishi In reply to berserkgem [2013-04-08 19:17:48 +0000 UTC]

hehe.. babes, i love you.. but again you have a lot of words and still nothing to show for..

this is what i mean with realism on a 3ds character: [link]

you are very right when trying to mimic realism thats its really hard.. especially when it comes to a human model.. but we are getting really close to it.. the problem is that you require a huge amount of skill.. you need to know all about how muscles move and how to mimic these movements on you model.. we dont even need a really high end model to achieve these effects.. especially if we are going for younger characters cause skin is really smooth around the face.. so a simple displacement map can be really effective to add a lot of small details to the face (not to mention if we using animated displacement maps then the results are going to be simply perfect, but making those is again a art form on its own) and get rid of the perfect symmetry on the face as well...

so my interpretation of what realism is and what i can achieve is like this: [link] [link] [link]

so what i want is to have this quality but then also animated and hopefully still looking good while moving around..

berserkgem In reply to SaphireNishi [2013-04-09 00:40:00 +0000 UTC]

wow i was going to link you that same video (the 1st one)

you definitely have the right idea in regards to how to make realistic looking models, but realistic animation done all by hand (without mo-cap and manual work combined like the 1st video) is very challenging. not impossible or too difficult to try, just challenging.

in the end it's all about the mind set you approach and what type of emotion you want to evoke from people. i think you have what it takes to create some 'natural' looking animation work, but personally i would go with slight exaggeration, it will make the model look sexier imo

i know i don't show a lot of my things on here, and my animation skills aren't as top notch as my knowledge, but in due time (when i get my confidence back), i'll show you some of my stuff that will harden your nipples

SaphireNishi In reply to berserkgem [2013-04-09 17:11:59 +0000 UTC]

well its not really a challenge.. its a skill, a craft.. once you know how to do it and have a good feel for it you can do it all the time.. i have seen professional animators make animations that look very believe and doing it on the fly, right in front of you.. so its all about skill and doing a lot of practice with it..

you have to realize tho, that knowledge of something is just a small part of an actually craft.. for example, i know how a rocket works.. i understand how physics are applied on a rocket.. i understand the technique that is need to lift a rocket up into the sky and shoot it into space.. but that doesnt mean i am rocket scientist.. and this works for everything like this.. if you know how something works doesnt mean you can actually do it.. its knowledge and skill that is required to do something.. these tests im uploading is just the knowledge i have.. there is not a lot arty farty stuff going in them.. so im not showing skill here only how to apply the knowledge i have to make it work.. skill is what we are showing of as an artist to impalement it one final product and to make it visual attractive.. and that is actually the hard part of it all..

so what is wrong with your confidence ? did someone say something wrong and you lost the confidence to show of you work or something ? dont you like to show of you skill and knowledge ? im really curious in what it is you can do.. i seems like you really know what you are talking about so i really do not get what is holding you back.. be proud on what you do, babes.. the stuff we make is defines who and what you are.. i know you are an awesome person, so i bet you art has to be awesome too..

that vid is really amazing.. not only the face rigging is amazingly done, but its in real time to.. thats a pure show of knowledgement..!!!

it's not so much what people say, it's more that i see all these talented people who do things way better then me and i try and compare myself to them (very stupid i know). it's a stupid habit i have ot get out of my head, and that's what i spent most of last year doing - getting the negative shit out of my head so i can approach this course with a fresh, open and 'eye on the prize' mindset

but give it time sweetie, once we really get into modelling and animating, i'll try to upload my work to show you that i can walk and talk

so, when is this 3d course starting then ?

berserkgem In reply to SaphireNishi [2013-04-10 21:01:36 +0000 UTC]

i started end of february, but we havent started any real work since this term is an introduction to maya > i just wish they where harsher when selecting students b/c at least half the people (around 35) don't even know anything 3d vfx related >

our first 'big project' is designing, modelling, animating and texturing (plus all the other crap) a robotic arm, so hopefully i can get it up on here so that you finally get a real chance at destroying me

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaphireNishi In reply to berserkgem [2013-04-10 22:49:05 +0000 UTC]

haha.. well look at it this way.. on those people you already are way ahead of them..

so do you guys get a reference to start working from ? or do you need to make everything from scratch, so that means drawing a robot arm first and then try to make it into 3d ? i think it could be a lot of fun that course you doing now..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

berserkgem In reply to SaphireNishi [2013-04-11 03:26:06 +0000 UTC]

well i may be ahead in terms of knowing what the tools do etc, but the way the teacher gets people to do things is a lot more professional and better b/c if i screw up he'll know what i did to screw up b/c it's his way of doing it (if that makes sense).

yeah we have to do everything from scratch: plan/brainstorm, design, create and polish (lighting, textures and rendering)

i'm pretty excited, b/c it will be properly set out and planned, but am stuck b/c i cant come up with a cool and original design i don't just want to 'copy' someones else's work, i'd rather have people look at my work and get their nipples (or other parts) hard over originality
