Description
This commissioned map shows Gondor around 2000 years before the War of the Ring (specifically, 1149 Third Age, the first year of the reign of King Atanatar II).I really enjoyed to create the map together with the client, who also delivered the translations of the place names. I had to assemble details of various existing maps into this one.

Wonderful map, and I like that Quenya was used, never seen the Quenya forms of the names before.

Funny - I never thought about how most of the elven terms we see in Middle-Earth are Sindarin, not Quenya. Very nice map.

Mordor was watched over because evilΒ and Rohan used to be a province that was later gifted to the Rohirrim.

Whoever that client was, he/she must know a good deal of Tolkienian language. ^^

It's Quenya, and the client (me) was greatly assisted by the forum dwellers at The One Ring.net. By which I mean, they did 99% of the heavy lifting, language wise

So how much of this is certifiably Tolkien's canon?

The contemporary extent of Gondor is canon, and most of the natural features are, too. Generally speaking, the farther you get from late Third Age Gondor, the more invented places you'll find.

Nice! ^^
It'd also be interesting though if the Rohirrim language was used, which if I remember was Old English ala Beowulf. This was even translated in the movie with the Rohan characters speaking in more archaic styles ("Hail, Theoden King...")

If it had been written in Rohirric, I believe Gondor would've been referred to as 'Stoningland'. Minas Tirith would be 'Mundburg' (and is referred to as such in the book). Both are fairly accurate translations of what the original names mean literally.

I followed the process and progress at TORn.
It looks marvelous.
I think Isildilme might be a bit disappointed about the Tengwar.
