Description
Shadow; dark, brooding, haunting, one of the uncommon elements among the Dragons of the TLOS universe. It is the embodiment of Darkness; the form that opposes the light. Along with Poison and Fear, the Shadow element came from a dark entity that supposedly created other unnatural elements.
Common Shadow Dragons have darker shades of color, with translucent scales, to help blend in with the element. They have power over the surrounding darkness, using it for camouflage, offense and defense, even conjure haunting apparitions made of shadows. These type of dragons breathe out cones of billowing, smoky shadow that seemed to be resemble flames, suffocating their enemies. Should an opponent be heavily exposed to the magic of the Shadow Element, the dark energy will seep into the victim's eyes, causing them hallucinate and see their allies as enemies for a certain amount of time, attacking them instead. Skilled Shadow Dragons can dive into their own shadow, becoming one with it and solid surfaces to dash past objects and enemies. They become intangible in this state, but leave behind trails of dark matter behind them. This technique can be used as an ambush tactic to catch opponents by surprise and deal the deadly strike.

I concur with what SarahSpyborg said in that Shadow is Cynder's true element. I even conceived both of Cynder's parents being Shadow dragons themselves.

I mean, it kind of a no-brainer. Instead of making complicated headcanons as to how she gained black scales and which element is which, just chalk it up and say she’s a Shadow dragon, simple as that. At the same time, I do expect people to disagree. We all have different ideas.

You know, the names of her parents are Nidhug and Umbra (since I perceive Cynder as a pure-blooded Shadow dragoness).
