A few scans of select pages of the original pitch bible for Invader Zim. This is the first official incarnation of INVADER ZIM and what Jhonen Vasquez used to sell his idea to Nickelodeon. I don't recall seeing anything like that. I guess it wasn't important to making the proposal for the show, which is what this book was for.

Ah I love it!! I really wish they had stuck to the original idea more. I think it could've created a much nicer complexity and made the character's antics better explained. The only thing I liked was that they got rid of NOYNG, because it was unnecessary. But I think the character development that they took out would've been quite a nice touch and made the show's characters overall less annoying. Especially Gir.

So wait... the irken empire was originally called the NOYNG race...? Makes sense... considering the definition of what it means to irk someone and noying sounds like annoying.
I notice a lot of differences between this and the series near its ending... Wonder if Jhonen is mad about that. I know I would. XD

Actually, the race was originally Irken. NOYNG had something to do with the participants of Impending Doom 2, but it is undefined. But you've stumbled across the hidden joke - when referring to Zim (or any one Invader) by himself, he's referred to as "a NOYNG INVADER" ("annoying invader"). Too bad that didn't make it into the show.

The show was being refined under Jhonen's guidance. I doubt Jhonen thought his earliest version was perfect with no room for improvement.

I still like the term "NOYNG INVADER" that appears in this Show Bible that never made it to the show itself. The humor in this isn't apparent until one refers to Zim as "a NOYNG INVADER" (annoying invader).
