Description
My first tutorial page is done! *woots* Anyways...Anyone can do this. It takes practice, a little bit of studying and work. The eye is in my opinion one of the most important features in my mind. You can make the most beautiful character ever but if you cross their eyes, don't line them up well or just don't give them the right detail it can completely kill your pic.
In this sheet I give you several different examples of eyes and their shapes along with a wedge design. Now a wedge design for the most part is breaking the surfice/mass of your subject down into more simplified shapes so that you can work on a more base level. This can be incredibly useful when you say move onto drawing hands or feet that have multiple curves and plains that must be plotted out and executed in a particular manner.
Eyes are relatively simply in their make up. One orb or sphere basically surrounded by various masses of flesh. The hardest part is placing the iris and pupil. But with a simple cross point (the x in the eye) you can successfully plot the pupil where you want or need it to go and thus make the iris.
Anyways if you like what you see and need a little work on your eyes here's a suggestion on the single best way to learn. Go and gra your magazines. It doesn't matter what they are persay as long as they have real people in them. Then go through the magazine and just start drawing each person's eyes. This will get you to work on different shapes and will also give you good and reliable references. Or if you got a good freind or two use their eyes and sketch them out whenever you can.
Cus remember kids....The eyes are the Window to the human Soul.

I completely agree with you about the whole eyes thing.
it can ruin an entire drawing.

I've been working really hard to learn to draw, it just never came to me like other people and I just want to say thank you for making this tutorial I learned everything I wanted about drawing eyes, haha I'm so happy to finally grasp the concept of drawing eyes in different angles.
P.S. I like your style of eyes.

Exactly what I need, a tutorial on eyes! You're so right, mess up the eyes and you ruin what could otherwise be an amazing picture.

huh...thats weird...i looked into a mirror and all i saw in my eyes was a "space for rent" sign...i guess my soul is suffering from decreased property value.
in anycase, amazing work. ima keep this and maybe it can help me. ive been depressed recently cause ive been finding people who are so much better than me in the styles i want to use.
have you any idea how demoralizing that is?

And the best (at least from my viewpoint) part: you can tell people's gender from the eyes, not only their intentions. And that is a hard thing to do properly. Oversized animu-eyes don't count.
In all seriousness, this is just awesome. Simple, clean, yet one understands exactly what you want to have said. And reading the artist's comments always helps. More people should do it

eyes ARE the most important part, for me personally in a face drawing. they define the character, if you match the eyes well to the personality.
