Description THIS IS THE FONT VERSION OF THE FULL ANCIENT HYLIAN ALPHABET:

Now before you question how and where...yes I DID reinvent and fully create the missing letters. This is my "full" alphabet version which can be used with the Hylian Language. Call it, if you will, the Goddesses Hylian?

I did my best to make the new characters work well with the preexisting ones, and some are only slight alterations due to their relation to the root characters. There are 52 unique letters, but the basic A-Z can be used for English writing (the short i with one dot over it should be used for most English words).

I'm going to post up more information on how to use this, as well as my other Hylian alphabet in due time, but for now you can just refer to this really crummy hand written chart!

General Information
This is based on the Ancient Hylian from the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
The chart for the game version is here: [link]
and the game accurate font can be downloaded here: [link]

This version has additional characters which are needed to work with my fan created Hylian Language, which uses characters which translate to basic roman as well as syllabary letters.
This version of Ancient Hylian can be used in the same way as my more "modern" Hylian.
I have a wallpaper helper for that version here: [link]
And the font for that version can be downloaded here: [link]

My Hylian Language used to be hosted at Hyrule Realm. As I haven't been able to get the site back up due to personal life issues sapping my time, I will eventually be putting the language back online on a new site dedicated solely to the language. In the meantime I plan on getting some information back up here on DA as I can in the near future.
If you have any questions about the language, please send me a note.
For those of you who remember Hyrule Realm, I'm so terribly sorry that I had to take it down! I haven't forgotten, and I will get the language back online for use, it's just a lot of work. I hope you can all understand, and I very much appreciate the continued support. ♥

I am fully aware of the fact that some of these look similar to Japanese Katakana and Hiragana. Contrary to those of you who want to say they ARE Japanese however, none of these are identical to Japanese kana and the similarities are not intentional. Any further commentary on the similarities are not necessary. Thank you anyway.

Why is it when I put the name 'Mikayla' the 'Mi' turns into 'Ma'?

I think you meant to comment about the font, right?

I don't really understand your question though. You can't get "Ma" from "Mi" at all, even with the font. If what you're seeing is "Mai", then there's a really simple reason for this: you didn't read the pdf about mapping.

Question, though: what's the difference between the "i" with one dot above it, and the "i" with 2 dots above it? Sound difference?

Sarinilli In reply to StainedGlassJesus [2012-09-04 21:56:14 +0000 UTC]

The pdf that is packed with the font has mapping information as well as a quick pronunciation guide for the possibly confusing letters, like the two i's compared to y and e, and r compared to the r/l letter.

Pronunciation will also be covered in my Hylian Lesson 01. :3

I wonder if you've tried to translate the writing seen on the Door of Time in OOT and TP? Wonder what it might say.

Seeing as how the alphabet in Twilight Princess is supposed to match up with English, and the original/official OoT alphabet works with Japanese, the best the text would be is actually just easter-egg text. Like if I remember, the signs through OoT N64 was "Nintendo" mirrored and flipped against it's self. lol

i think your my hero for posting this, also as someone who can read and write hiragana and katakana i must say IMO this barely resembles japanese in anyway besides the r/l letter.

Lol, thank you. I was studying the Japanese language (written and spoken) for quite some time, so seeing some people say they know Japanese and insist on some characters being identical was kind of irking me. Nice to see someone else who knows the kana well enough to see the differences. :3

Haha ok, I was going to say.. though that sounds like an awesome idea for Hylian, too...I just can't program to save my life. I can make webpages from the ground up in a basic text editor, but that's different..I can code..I just can't program.

oh the site im using does it all for me, although i am quite good at coding myself. this site just allows you to make digital flash cards in sets and then you can review and flip them as you wish. you could do it for the hylian ones if you wanted to its really user friendly.. im writing my cards based on the Learning The Kana book along with adding my own twist on it. im also making a vocab set =]

Sarinilli In reply to Sanity-shockartist [2012-09-03 01:13:57 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty cool really.. someone I knew once did this simple program to help learn kana that would show an image, and you enter what it means..basically flashcards but a tiny little program...if only I could backwards engineer it. *laughs*

But at least I do have the printable flash cards for Hylian, which may or may not be easier for some people ^^

sounds like what i use wouldnt be far off from what you wanna backward engineer this is the site if you wanna tkae a look at it [link] studying online might be a little easier then printing them out anyways. buh yah ttyl!

I'd like to obnoxiously point out to everyone saying that this is a rip-off of Japanese Katakana/Hiragana that using straight lines, curved lines, dashes, etc. is universal.

Heck, the character for 'hi' looks like the number 2. The double-dotted i looks almost like the character 'jeem' in arabic, except backwards. And you don't see me complaining.

So unless you were expecting hylian to be written in swirls and cavemen drawings, please keep unreasonable accusations to yourself . It kind of makes me angry, since *Sarinilli did a marvelous job on the project.

So no pointing fingers, children. It's considered rude.

this is an awesome font! love the syllabary and the detail that went into this.

one thing i'd like to point out though. i'd just say that there are one or two that are actually identical to japanese kana. i understand that the similarity was entirely a coincidence, though, and i think that's kind of cool that it ended up that way, to be honest. it gives the font a very historical kind of feel to it. xD

awesome job! this font is so being downloaded.

1. No. They're not. Two or three of them are very similar, yes, but not exact.

2. This isn't a font, it's a picture. I'll have the font done for it when I'm not so overly busy.
