Description
THIS IS THE FONT VERSION OF THE FULL ANCIENT HYLIAN ALPHABET:Now before you question how and where...yes I DID reinvent and fully create the missing letters. This is my "full" alphabet version which can be used with the Hylian Language. Call it, if you will, the Goddesses Hylian?
I did my best to make the new characters work well with the preexisting ones, and some are only slight alterations due to their relation to the root characters. There are 52 unique letters, but the basic A-Z can be used for English writing (the short i with one dot over it should be used for most English words).
I'm going to post up more information on how to use this, as well as my other Hylian alphabet in due time, but for now you can just refer to this really crummy hand written chart!
General Information
This is based on the Ancient Hylian from the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
The chart for the game version is here: [link]
and the game accurate font can be downloaded here: [link]
This version has additional characters which are needed to work with my fan created Hylian Language, which uses characters which translate to basic roman as well as syllabary letters.
This version of Ancient Hylian can be used in the same way as my more "modern" Hylian.
I have a wallpaper helper for that version here: [link]
And the font for that version can be downloaded here: [link]
My Hylian Language used to be hosted at Hyrule Realm. As I haven't been able to get the site back up due to personal life issues sapping my time, I will eventually be putting the language back online on a new site dedicated solely to the language. In the meantime I plan on getting some information back up here on DA as I can in the near future.
If you have any questions about the language, please send me a note.
For those of you who remember Hyrule Realm, I'm so terribly sorry that I had to take it down! I haven't forgotten, and I will get the language back online for use, it's just a lot of work. I hope you can all understand, and I very much appreciate the continued support. ♥
• I am fully aware of the fact that some of these look similar to Japanese Katakana and Hiragana. Contrary to those of you who want to say they ARE Japanese however, none of these are identical to Japanese kana and the similarities are not intentional. Any further commentary on the similarities are not necessary. Thank you anyway.
Check out the font if you like this! ^_^

Hey, thanks! Though I think the hand written job is causing a little confusion that might be avoided if I had just digitally made the new ones as a place holder for the font...but I'm glad you like it! ^_^

Yes, maybe, but the handwritten one is more of a work of art. I would frame this and put it on my wall. Written language is very interesting and pretty to me. I'm weird, lol.

fuhuhuhu, this is really fun. Good job. O: I'm sure it must've taken up alot of time, I really like how the letters look.
Also i haven't played Zelda, So is this written horizontally or vertically? Left or right?

Sarinilli In reply to ixDenial [2012-08-29 19:34:33 +0000 UTC]
It's written horizontally, left to right usually. In some cases vertical signs would be written vertically instead of on their sides, but that's rare. :3

*snicker* Look at all the Japanese in there. Ah how I love language and symbols and arbitrariness.

*lol* I know - I know Japanese. It just amused me that some of them looked exactly like certain symbols...kind of like how some of the symbols from the Matrix do too. Language is fun.

Sarinilli In reply to AlterEgox5 [2012-08-30 03:50:48 +0000 UTC]
See, you say you know Japanese but say "exact"..no...none of them are "exact". Similar means they look close. Take 'li" for example, the bottom isn't curved under the post like the Japanese "chi" is, and the horizontal line is different.
And the symbols in the Matrix font actually are Japanese. They mixed Japanese with some mathematical symbols. I believe I read somewhere that that's actually what they did because they thought it fit.

AlterEgox5 In reply to Sarinilli [2012-08-30 15:22:37 +0000 UTC]
Then perhaps I shouldn't have used the word "exact" since one look at my mom's letters to my grandparents and "exact" certainly doesn't come into play with her handwriting. *lol* Just as my handwriting in English certainly is not exact to how the letters are supposed to look. But enough about that, it's a delightful innovation and anything Zelda rules.

That's what I keep thinking, because hand written is always going to have alterations, so it's harder to see the "proper" shape of the characters. I may just have to redo the chart, but people seem to think it's amusing. ^^

Bah, leave it the way it is! A lot of people won't see it - I once did a project in college where I showed about 5-8 different language symbols that included things like hirigana, Russian, kanji, English, a few Tolkien languages, and then one I totally made up from my own handwriting and asked people to match the symbols to their respective languages. Pretty much everyone failed miserably, but the project was fun as hell do to.

my name is emily... so if i were to write my name... would I use the 'e' 'm' 'i' 'l' and 'y' characters or could I write it how it 'e' 'mi' 'li' ?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Sarinilli In reply to Cheezyem [2012-08-29 01:44:16 +0000 UTC]
Either way would work, it's up to you how you chose to write it. But be aware, as a name, once you decide on a spelling, that should be the spelling you use. Like with any name. So just pick the method you prefer. Just remember how the single i and ï work. The syllabary characters with i after the consonant can work for both. :3

Oh it did take me quite a while off and on, seeing as how I was trying to match new characters to ones that were in the game... thankfully once in a while I would brainstorm and just see the character in my mind as if it was supposed to be that way. Made things go a lot easier when I was in the right state of mind for it. ^_^

Weeell it's half made up, if you can think of it that way! I personally consider it to be REAL Hylian, but that's just me, and I have to admit I am a little bit egotistical when it comes to my ideas of what Hylian as a language (and alphabets) should be like. *laughs* ^^'
