Description
April 08 2017:Β Almost three years since my last update. Polished a few things up that I've learned better over the years; it's not a mandatory upgrade, but if you've had any issues at all with this installing or working properly, please try out this new version and let me know how it goes! Thanks, and enjoy!July 08 2014:Β Here we go again with fixes and updates... sorry guys, I keep doing this to you! I went and fixed some issues in ALL my fonts. Enjoy!
Jan 06 2012: I realized after a long long time that there was some naming in the font that was left over from the template! Oops... I fixed this error and updated some internal issues that may have kept the font from working on some machines. Sorry to anyone who may or may not have had issues with this font working properly in the past!
This is the Gerudo Alphabet, a script as old as the sands themselves...
This is my fan alphabet for the Gerudo people in the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The script here was inspired by elements in the game it's self as well as Tolkien's works.
This font was made long before Nintendo's release of their official Gerudo alphabet! This variation still holds in my story universe of Hyrule, and will be kept up for anyone who wants an alternative and unique alphabet for the Gerudo, as well as those who follow the tales of Hyrule Nautil.
The zip file contains the .ttf and a pdf mapping chart for the letters. It's missing the mapping for the double-letter: simple, turn the character on it's side. It's mapped to the tilde ~.
Note:
This font is free for personal use. If you plan to use this alphabet in fanart, fan-fiction, tell your friends about it, use it in print work, you get the point... I expect credit.
If you're unsure whether or not I would allow for any specific reason, please contact me beforehand.
Please do not host this font on any site without my direct permission!

Iβm starting to get back into learning to read and write this fanmade alphabet (because itβs fun), and I just got confused on a small thing. Letβs say I wanna write a word that has a double vowel after a vowel like in the word βqueenβ, how would I write that Iβm sarif gerudo?

I read the pdf and understand the concepts, but still kinda confused on how I would write a word like βbubbleβ

Instead of try to further explain what you say you understand, I'll just give an example... while using the font, the keystrokes for "bubble" would be "bUb~lE"... go ahead and put that in and you'll see what it's supposed to look like.
I think the awkwardly confusing part that's getting you must be that there are still two "b" letters together; the reason it works like this though is that one is already altered as having the vowel symbols over it. The second b in bubble isn't replaced with the consonant duplicator because the first is voweled, the third gets the duplicator because the second b has no modifications. Hope that helps! ^_^

I've recently started trying to type it in word, I've been learning to write it first, and the punctuation marks aren't cooperating. For example, I've been trying to type the apostrophe but whenever I do, it automatically changes to the Times New Roman Font and it won't let me change it.

Hey, sorry this is such a late response... Check the PDF; certain punctuation is set up differently and some doesn't exist like in English. If it's defaulting back to Times New Roman, then the character you're after doesn't exist. I failed to remember to block that shift from happening with non-existent characters. but the pdf explains how to use it with what the alphabet/font does have. :3

A question: In the event that I need a written font for my fanfiction, I plan to use these. (with credit. it would be bad if there was no credit). However, I would like to use this particular one as the ancient Gerudo writing, preceding the current Gerudo Typography. Is that alright?

That's fine by me!
That's actually what I've decided for it too, since the official Gerudo got released finally in Hyrule Historia. Basically, my Hylian language is more of an ancient text (which is why I went ahead and adapted the Ancient Skyward Sword era Hylian as well as the OoT era which I started off with), so as far as alphabets go, why not call my Gerudo alphabet the ancient script for them, as well? We're talking, if I date my works properly (my Hylian language, gerudo and sheikah alphabets) they predate skyward sword into the era of Hylia's reign. :3
SOoooo yeah, if you want to use my Gerudo alphabet as their ancient writing and the OoT official typography as the more modern, by all means, go for it! :3

There is an official Gerudo Alphabet out now.
(Which strangely only has the numbers 1 and 5)

Even though I love all your Zelda fonts so much, I think this one is probably my favorite.
I was wondering though, how would you handle a double vowel at the beginning of a word like the name Aaron?

Sarinilli In reply to AramisTwinstripe [2011-08-03 23:36:51 +0000 UTC]
Use the stand alone vowel then the double vowel under it. That works just as well as putting the double vowel under a consonant.
And thanks. I think Gerudo was one of the most fun to make. :3

I adore the way you did this, even more than the other fonts. I just love how the vowels and consonants and double-letters interact. Since I love the Gerudo already, it's such a... fangasm XD

Thanks! β₯
Actually, I wish I could take full credit for the idea but I was really inspired by the vowel system in Tolkien's Elven alphabets.
I really liked the idea and it somehow seemed to fit the idea I had for the Gerudo already so I managed to work the basic idea into my own work. ^^

Between the alphabet work and time spent to make the font versions, I can only say "yes". I forget now how much time actually went into these though. ^^'

did you use the games for references or did you compile them on your own - I ask cause its like Ive seen them in the game - great work
π: 0 β©: 1
Sarinilli In reply to Pertheseus [2009-07-06 08:09:28 +0000 UTC]
Some of the alphabets took more reference than others but all were inspired by a lot of gameplay and thought. Gerudo in particular is not exactly what you see in the Spirit temple, but loosely referenced from the texts seen there.
I feel silly commenting about all the alphabets in the comments of just one. I'll see about a journal post so I can rant more freely. ^^
