Description
Part one: [link]Hi people ^^
Sorry about typos XD I finished it late.
I'm not expecting this to particularly take off XD But for a couple of friends who wanted to learn (including one who refuses to get a dA account <.<)) and because I was bored, I decided to make a tutorial/guide!
It's not very good, I'm bad at explaining things. But if it is any help to you, please let me know. I included the tools at the side to start off with just to make things a bit clearer and leave it up to you later on.
Here's the finished pic:
And here's some other art I've used this method on:

Hi. I read and faved this tutorial ages ago - and I justw anna say THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Now that I look back on all my faves for the last couple of years I realize that this is the
tutorial I learned the most from. Without this tutorial I wouldn't have been so good at
colouring as I am today.
Your tutorial opened my eyes to a whole new way of creating pics and later on I started
to find my own methods^^
Thank you so much

Yes, and god knows how many tutorials about digital painting I've read... this is the first time I understand how the hell people blend!
I was not choosing the right brush apparently and I was not setting it to this little opacity... so my blending was awful and I was finishing by using the smudge tool, but it didn't look good
So thank you for your detailed tutorial!

I really like these, nice and simple and easy to follow. I will be saving both for later reference. ^^

In my opinion, the only thing that got better with the final edit was the hair, the rest is way too saturated and plastic looking, maybe a mix of both would look great.

Yeah, I fucked up on that which is why I didn't give instructions on how to do it

Love your tip on blending-I've been using the smudge tool at a low opacity to do the work, but will give your idea a try. Thankx!

I think what this really needs is a definite light source. It looks like you have tired to bring in light from the right of the picture, but some areas of the image looks like the light is either coming straight a the girl or even from her feet. Look for some tutorials on light sources, I'm sure you'll know what i mean
Just a suggestion, good luck in creating even more wonderful art pieces in the future!

Oh, you're totally right and light sources are my weakness but that wasn't what I was trying to get across with this tutorial (because I fail at it). Really, it's just about getting the right colours, blending them right etc. Where people put the colours and how they shade/highlight is up to them XD It's a very basic tutorial and I didn't want to kind of try and explain and demonstrate something I'm not strong at myself. But thank you, I know I need to improve a lot on that for sure. It's a goal for the new year XD

Whoo! Yay for goals!
I did like the way you created the palates beforehand, I usually make things spur of the moment and it made me think about trying planning things out some more. That'll be my goal for the new year! xD

I am sooo using this! But I use Sai Paint tool :S I don't think it has the history brush...
π: 0 β©: 1
Sarky-Sparky In reply to FlippinFlakes [2010-12-15 15:15:33 +0000 UTC]
Well, I only suggest using the history brush because photoshop only lets you Ctrl+Z 20 times. And when painting, I do a lot of strokes so it doesn't let me go back enough, whereas the history brush erases everything and to different intensities. You could just work on a new layer and use the eraser instead, maybe. But please show me if you do use this!
