Sarspax — Zenn with child

Description So I won't bother correcting you guys cuz I know it'll happen anyway. The Zenn have 3 biological sexes. The sex that carries the vhild for a time as it matures enough to be exposed to the outside elements is not 'female'. They don't have anything that equates to it. The ONLY similarity between them and Terran females is that they birth the offspring. Similarity ends there. Lol.

I'm going to be trying to help distinguish the carriers more in the next coming pieces of Zenn art. They're typically going to be lankier looking with a possibility of other attributes. Will point them out as they come.

Ask your questions and ye shall be answered.

All I want to know is who knocked that zenn up, AND the culprit SHOULD BE SMOKING A CIGAR, cause cigars are universally meaning of just had sex.

yeah creepy in like a unisex fasion, yeah... why don't you have more Zenn erotica D8 I know you have them somewhere!

What are the differences between the three sexes anyway? That's never really been clear: how do they tell which one's which? and who does the nursing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sarspax In reply to Ross-Sanger [2011-02-25 20:18:34 +0000 UTC]

No nursing. They feed their kids like birds do. There also isnt a whole lot of sexual dimorphism because all three parents are highly involved in raising the offspring. It's not particularly hard to flag down mates either. Generally though the ones who carry the offspring inside them are a bit lankier overall. But they are not female. The similarities end with the carrying bit. The Zenn can tell by the smell of hormones and other things that are very subtle.

And actually if you think about it, most human males and females have very little in difference at a glance. If you put a clothed man and woman next to each other, no makeup and shaved their hair, there is a high chance they'd look the same gender. We differentiate by means of cosmetics and clothing which is a cultural thing.

I might give them clothing differences but idk on that yet.

Ah, I see, the ol' regurgitating semi-digested food thing.

I don't know, I know a lot of girls that could never be mistaken for male no matter how realistic a false beard you gave them -- you'd need a lot of tape in certain areas anyway and I doubt they'd be able to breath -- and guys that you just couldn't mistake for female no matter how much makeup they had... well, maybe a girl with a hormone problem, but still, it just depends on how male or how female you look: curves suggest female, squareness suggests male. Also, if you examine a human skeleton there are things that immediately indicate sex, like the shape of the pelvis and the skull, so I'm pretty sure I could tell what sex someone was regardless of how they were dressed. Saying that though, I have also known some people who do look a bit androgynous and I've been mistaken about their sex, like a girl I knew in college who I thought was a boy until she spoke... heheh, and this guy I saw once and I thought "man, that girl is ugly" and then I though "oh wait, it's just a guy with moobs, lmao!"

Anyway

If the none of the three sexes of Zen are directly equivalent to female, then that stands than none of them are directly equivalent to male either. How many pronouns do they have?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sarspax In reply to Ross-Sanger [2011-02-25 20:48:17 +0000 UTC]

I know but that's not the average girl or guy. lol. We put so much stress on differentiating ourselves in that respect that its socially unacceptable to look in between. And actually the differences in the skeleton are more subtle than you think. Did plenty of looking in the anthro classes I took. There is a bare difference in the skulls. Most of that has to do with the nuchal line which you can't actually see unless you ripped some flesh off. Hips are more noticeable but only by a little bit. It does definitely depend on the degree but the overwhelming majority do not stand out as blatantly female/male without aid of cosmetics/hairstyle. This is greatly distorted by our media and the ideas its given us on how we should present masculinity and femininity.

Overall the idea I'm trying/failing to convey is that these are things we notice because as a member of that species we're trained to notice these differences. Someone outside the species would look at us and hardly be able to tell the difference. They would actually have to rely on the way we dressed and how our voices sound to make that distinguishment. Although the Zenn might just be able to smell the difference. They don't have super noses but they're sure as hell better than ours.

They are going to have more than three pronouns since they cater to three sexes. Likely four unless I decide that they place no importance on something having no gender identity.

Ross-Sanger In reply to Sarspax [2011-02-25 21:01:28 +0000 UTC]

I guess you're right in some ways. I happen to be one of those people who just couldn't pass off as a woman though, which is funny since I used to get teased for looking girly when I was a kid (I had quite long hair... and pink lips).

So you mean more like how its difficult for a human to tell the sex of a dog (especially a shaggy dog) unless they know what to look for but a dog can smell the difference, kind of thing?

I think there needs to be four, even if the fourth is equivalent to "it", otherwise they would just have one pronoun if they didn't think gender mattered at all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sarspax In reply to Ross-Sanger [2011-02-25 21:12:25 +0000 UTC]

Everyones got pink lips. Lol. Except for grannies. It's ok. I was in the same boat.

Exactly. Dogs all look the same to use generally unless we go do a gonad check. Lol. But yeah something like that. Although I'm sure the Zenn will have a way of visually being able to tell the difference.

Lol you just repeated what I said.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ross-Sanger In reply to Sarspax [2011-02-26 13:16:00 +0000 UTC]

apart people who have brown lips because of skintone. Yeah, but mine were actually pretty darn pink, nice to know it wasn't just me though.

Oh, I took it that you meant you'd have either three or four singular third-person* pronouns, as opposed to either having four to encompass equivalent of sex#1 sex#2 sex#3 and a fourth that is the equivalent of "it" or just one pronoun that would be used in place of any of the four. I'd also suggest five singular third-person pronouns* that would be sex#1 sex#2 sex#3, a pronoun for living things with either no gender or of unknown gender and a fifth for inanimate objects (like people don't feel comfortable using "it" to describe an androgynous human, they prefer to say "they" or to try to use "he" or "she" or something even try making up a fourth pronoun to use like "ne")
*(other pronouns being in the first person like "I" and "me", the second person like "you" and plural third-person like "they")

I can imagine though humans referring to Zenn as either "he" for the two non-child-bearing sexes and "she" for the child-bearing sex.

Sarspax In reply to Ross-Sanger [2011-02-26 21:37:39 +0000 UTC]

Possible. I'll have to go back and refer to my Zenn spirituality notes to help me decide that one.

That last bit I did decide though and determined that he was more culturally accurate than she. So all three would use he around humans, or insist on it anyway. Would provide some hilarious gender confusion too since people in general have a hard time wrapping their brains around it all.

I think I already have I me you they we us our sort of pronouns decided. I'll have to dig up my language notes. It's been a while since I've touched this subject. I know the first three genders have pronouns too.

Not quite. All three contribute genetic material. The forms of such aren't the same either. With humans the egg has the overwhelming mass but in this case all three are about equal parts.

Hehehe I know, thank you

Lol well if humans suddenly decided to try that probably. For the Zenn its completely normal. Sex is a huge part of their society and there isn't an awkwardness about it like we have.
