Description
Edit: I found my map files! I want to clean it up and update it before I reupload it/create a new interactive bit for this map. Β RIP mashupforge.ΒRelated content

I like the detail in this, but what bugs me about this map design is the fact that the continents don't look like they could ever have drifted in any tectonic plate-sensible way. When sketching maps I like to play "connect the continents" in my head and imagine the tectonic plates, and the movements which would have gotten them to where they are in the present era. Sure land masses can sink into the mantle, merge, and distort somewhat, but if you look at our continents they at least still somewhat look like they go together. I see no continuity at all on this map.

Did some digging around before responding. A loooot of things I was thinking of saying have already been said by other people but I'll leave you with this.Β I don't really have the time to educate you on my world. I probably would have if you'd bothered asking me about my design choices instead of assuming I didn't know what I was doing. I'll give you some free advice though. Assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

...so why didn't you provide an explanation in the description instead of getting salty when someone raises a question because you don't provide enough detail about what you created? We're not a mind reader - it's on you to give your ideas a voice and explain yourself clearly enough that it leaves no room for assumptions.
I'm tired of hearing this "don't make assumptions because you don't understand my world!!1!" excuse. I don't understand it because you do a poor, vague job of explaining it. I only have what little information you provided and what I know from real life to go off of. That's not assuming, that's inferencing based on what I have read in your artwork and descriptions, and what I know from real science.
I looked through the comments, and nothing explains what I'm questioning. How did tectonic plate movement throughout prehistory yield this current continent arrangement? I'm being serious, I want to see an illustration of it, because I can't picture it in my head looking at the only illustration of the planet you have provided me.

I actually wasn't upset? And still am not. I make it a point to answer a lot of questions given my limited time. I even have journals to gather them so I don't lose track. But I'm also not obligated to provide a description for anything. If you did look at my artist comment section at all I did say that I was in the process of getting material written up for it. I'm pretty busy with my thesis, senior show, and job applications right now. If I get around to completing updates it'll be sometime in the middle of the summer.Β Yeah, I don't update my DA very often. I've got other things that need my attention and not updating my DA has zero consequences. It's a leisure activity.Β
You're being very insistent about getting information as though I owe it to you, and I don't really care if you understand my world at this point. Whether you understand it or not doesn't have any affect on me. Appeasing you doesn't benefit my core followers, it doesn't increase my connections in the industry, it doesn't open up any potential job pathways. All it would do is have me spending energy on someone outside myself that doesn't have any interest in the interaction being mutually beneficial. I can tell you are being serious but I don't think you can tell how rude you've been. I don't care about any sort of 1-to-1 compensation for my time. I don't hold my time at that high of value. I just have a limited amount of it, and basic respect on a person-to-person level is a prerequisite.Β
Suggesting you not make assumptions was advice because it's clearly been affecting your reputation online. It's the kind of thing that may not seem consequential now but the folks in the industry look into your online history before they consider bringing you in for an interview but sometimes before even looking at your portfolio. There's kids at my school that already sabotaged themselves by junior year. No on in the same department wants to work with them, and all of the instructors actively work in their respective industries so none of those companies will work with them either. The industry is small. Doesn't matter whether or not you were right.Β

You're right. I was out of line in that reply and I apologize for being unnecessarily rude. I completely misread the tone of the last reply which is why I got frustrated. Even though I intended the original comment as a simple objective critique, I suppose maybe I phrased it wrong. I'm really good at botching tones aren't I?

Have you got any fault lines drawn out for your world?
I don't make many maps but I imagine that the specific areas that mountains volcanos can form or quakes are likely can be a significant element in the development of other natural landscapes like deserts and islands. This could add a bit more of a realistic climate to the map.
Y'know, mountains block winds and clouds, preventing water from reaching some areas, or plants from spending from one side to the other.
...
Just a thought that occurred to me while I was looking at your map.
-Aaroca-
I love the fractal land formations though.

Thanks! I don't have them drawn yet but techtonic plates, Β ocean currents, and ocean labels are the next on my list. Zennhome is chock full of geothermal activity as well but is predominantly snowy.Β

Once I get the information and copyrights and stuff updated I sure will! Thanks for the suggestion. I had no idea reddit was even into worldbuilding.

Yeah they'll eat this up. They also provide resources in helping give life to a world. I'm definitely taking notes of it all.
