First of all I'm sorry you feel that way about yourself, because you are beautiful!
Anyway, my actual comment. I love that you can see all the different colors and tones that you used.. it's like they're not blended but they are. I think it's just the style in general that I like. Are those patterns in the background random? I like them, they work so well with the rest of the picture and kind of frame you.

I love the feel of this. It reminds me slightly of Loish, how she does her self portraits, but its still got your original flair. >:
I'd loove to do one of these, but every time I try I never get the level of 'realism' I'm shooting for.

I did use a reference, so getting the realistic look is way easier for me. Also, knowing the places where the face usually darkens and lightens helps. If you go here: [link] There is a black and white illustration of where all the highlighted and shaded parts are... that may help : )

You are REALLY great with colour. I love how this isn't all super-smooth airbrushed like most paintings- you see all these perfectly rendered portraits all the time with a gradual, even gradation of tone, but they don't even come close to the vibrancy of the colouring you've done on this. Its so clear that even with a lazy, splotchy way of (digi?)painting, you show perfect understanding of colour, texture and tone.
This is how I want to be able to colour someday.

Heh, funny... people rarely say I'm very good at color. Thanks. I'm trying to be come more comfortable with rougher coloring/shading. Smooth tonal shifts are so ingrained in me, but breaking from that is rather liberating : )

You're lovely, but you look so sad and distant. I have a hard time thinking of you being anything other than productive, analytical and for the most part contented. But I suppose all of us have some deeper things which show at least once in a while.
Or maybe you were just going for a deeper expression?

Thanks. Heh, I didn't really go for any expression in this. It was mostly an exercise, so I didn't focus on the mood. I just picked a image from photobooth and ran with it.
I am rather analytical, but hardly ever productive.

Next time you go to the mall I'll meet you there for coffee (or whatever) and then we can walk around an joke a lot. Then when you use the photo booth for more references I'll peek in with silly faces so that you laugh or make some of your own.
Or just imagine that the next time you do a self portrait. Some of my best ideas start by being extremely silly and then slowly whittling it back into something that has a point.
