Luna Lovegood: "They're called Thestrals. They're quite gentle, really... But people avoid them because they're a bit..."

Harry Potter: "Different. But why can't the others see them?"

Luna Lovegood: "They can only be seen by people who've seen death."

So, this is something I did for a contest at the Astronomy Tower, a Russian HP fansite. The theme was "First Time" and it's Harry's first time seeing a Thestral. I know it didn't happen quite this way in canon, but this is exactly how I see it.

I'd like to thank the wonderful *cabepfir for marvellous pieces of advice and help with that. She'd given me plenty of useful hints, but I don't think I managed to follow all of them. Not because I'm lazy, but because I suck, and some of them are still way above my level.
